The 1990s is arguably the ultimate era of “What ifs?” in NBA history, with the ’70s as the only other decade really in the discussion. Yet while the ’70s were marred by drug use and a talent pool thinned by expansion and the rise of the ABA, the ’90s simply fell victim to too many teams being willing to give too many unproven players big money too early in their lives. Tracy McGrady leaped straight to the NBA from Mount Zion Christian Academy in 1997, fell to the Raptors at No. 9 in the draft and almost immediately flashed his promising talent, albeit in limited playing time for coaches Darrell Walker and Butch Carter. By his third year, it was apparent McGrady would be a star, and the Magic scooped him up as part of a sign-and-trade with Toronto. He blossomed into one of the best players in the league for Orlando and Houston, and the fact that he now gets mocked for his lack of postseason success says just how much more successful he was than Jonathan Bender or Darius Miles. NBA Finals: San Antonio Spurs game 2 recap, game 3 preview

The Block The San Antonio Spurs got off to a solid start in Sunday night’s game against the Heat. Much like in Game 1, Kawhi Leonard was able to contain LeBron James, Danny Green got hot from deep, they dominated the glass, and they held Dwyane Wade to a pedestrian 10 points on the night. Leonard played with incredible energy, grabbing 14 rebounds (8 offensive!) on the night and...

Tony Parker suffered a hamstring injury in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday and his status is uncertain for Game 4 on Thursday. Tony Parker could miss Game Four?

In the midst of the Spurs' 3-point onslaught in last night's Game Three victory over the Heat comes some troubling news from the San Antonio locker room. Tony Parker left the game in the middle of the third quarter with an undisclosed hamstring injury. While he returned to the bench and to the game, Parker still said he felt some discomfort. He was scheduled to have an...

Amazing then and now GIF of the San Antonio Spurs

It absolutely blows my mind to think that the San Antonio Spurs’ core players and coach once looked like that. Tony Parker once had a super-smooth face. Manu Ginobili used to have hair. Tim Duncan once rocked a ‘fro. Gregg Popovich had a sweet combover. How great would this GIF look if the Spurs somehow [...]

Gary Neal hits buzzer beating Three before Half

The Spurs were up by 10 late in the 2nd quarter but the Miami Heat made a run and tied up the score with 44 seconds left. Tony Parker then hit a three pointer. On the following possession Danny Green blocked LeBron James and the Spurs went on the fast break. Duncan threw a perfect outlet pass to Tony Parker, who then found Gary Neal wide open on the wing. Neal nailed the three right...

Spurs rout unrecognizable Heat

Game Two was the kind of game good teams have nightmares about. The defense and principals of a team break down and it leads to an onslaught of highlights and talk that makes a player and a team doubt itself. Especially when the stakes are so high. The only thing a team can do to fight all this off is to respond the next time out. San Antonio HAD to respond the next time out and...
