Kevin HcHale's daughter passed away from Lupus at the age of 23 just a few weeks ago. As GM of the Minnesota Timberwolves, McHale brought Kevin Garnett into the league and later traded him here to the Celtics. Garnett always wears his emotions on his sleeve, and it's not always the negative ones. The tear jerking moment above is evidence of that.

Why we need sports at times like this

When Kevin Garnett walked over to Kevin McHale, embraced him, and let the man who drafted him cry on his shoulder, it showed a couple of things. First, it was a glimpse into the type of person Kevin Garnett really is.  Sure, we see the fun little curse-filled post-game rants here and there, but no one outside of a Garnett locker room truly knows him, and we probably never will....

Kevin Garnett And Kevin McHale Teach Us All A Lesson In Life

Everyone has their opinions on Kevin Garnett whether you are with or against him.  A lot of people say he is a fake tough guy and a phony.  I will tell you one thing from my view is that Kevin Garnett is a serious person.  He means what he says and says what he means.  This small moment in sports during a time like today is proof of many things - Kevin's (both) emotions,...

Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale shared a long hug with Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett after Friday night's NBA matchup at the Toyota Center, where the Rockets defeated the Celtics 101-99. It was the first time the teams played since McHale took a month-long absence to grieve the loss of his daughter Sasha, who died of complications from Lupus at the age of 23. As they...

Video: Kevin Garnett And Kevin McHale Share Emotional Embrace Postgame

Kevin Garnett and Kevin McHale shared a very touching moment after the Rockets defeated the Celtics 101-89 in Houston on Thursday night. McHale drafted Garnett in 1995 and the two have remained close, and it was an extremely powerful image as Garnett embraced his former coach and offered his condolences on the the passing of McHale’s daughter Sasha in November:

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

I included the video of Kevin McHale and Kevin Garnett embracing in the game recap, but I felt that this moment was so special it needed to be mentioned again. Yesterday was a very rough day for almost everyone in this country. Twenty precious children were killed in an act of senseless violence. Those of us who are parents and grandparents were hit especially hard by the tragedy...

On one of the most tragic days in recent American history, Kevin McHale and Kevin Garnett shared an emotional hug Friday night after the Rockets’ 101-89 win in Houston. Kevin McHale: More than just the best low-post player of all-time

As the years have passed by the late 80′s greats in Boston, history has remember Kevin McHale as a Celtics’ legend, decent head coach and the guy who gave Kevin Garnett to Boston. People don’t remember just how dominant McHale was in green. For his career, Kevin McHale average 17.9 PPG, 7.3 RPG and [...]

Rockets 101, Celtics 89: Another inconsistent performance

Kevin Durant's shoes tonight.I watched the whole game, took notes and tweeted about it. But lamenting some poor interior defense and bad shooting just doesn’t feel right tonight. The lasting image I have from this game wasn’t Jeff Green’s fierce dunk or James Harden’s outrageously effective Eurostep. It was Kevin McHale, who recently lost his daughter, sobbing into Kevin...

Starting 5: A moment of silence

Every morning, we will give you five things from the night before in the NBA to start your day. 1: A mournful embrace The best moment of Friday's nights basketball games had nothing to do with a sport. Nothing to do with a dunk, a shot, a block, a defensive play, an assist. It was the simple act of humanity. One that resonated deeply on a dark day for the nation. Kevin...

O.J. Mayo: ‘Would’ve been an honor to play’ for C's

Last season a trade that would have brought O.J. Mayo to Boston for Judas Shuttlesworth was basically squashed because Mayo claimed that he “doesn’t care about Boston’s banners.” After last night’s double overtime loss Mayo backpedaled faster than Rondo getting back on D, claiming that the accusation wasn’t true and he had no say in the matter due to lack of veto power...

Celtics blogger expects Boston to beat Spurs

Tonight the Spurs and Celtics will clash in San Antonio and Celtics blogger John Karalis of Red's Army weighs in on the matchup. In a nutshell, John is expecting the Celtics to shock the Spurs tonight and escape San Antonio with the win. Here is what he had to say on tonight's Spurs-Celtics game.   So the Celtics have played a double overtime game where Paul Pierce...

A Moment of Silence for Pistol Pete

A little while ago, @OfficialCeltics shared this video on Twitter. I've always been a big Pistol Pete fan and enjoyed this video and I wanted to share it here.   The Celtics give a moment of silence for Pistol Pete Maravich before a game vs the Knicks (coached by the evil Rick Pitino) in 1988. It's interesting to hear what Mike and Tommy have to say about Pete. Also...

Missner's Manifesto: The One and Done Conundrum

I started writing about college basketball prior to the 2006-07 season, which was the first year of the NBA’s one-and-done rule. I don’t think the NBA actually calls it that, but the rule prevented basketball players from jumping straight from high school to the pros. The rule has been one of the more controversial moves in recent basketball history. I think anyone who...
