Really, who didn't love walter?
Walter McCarty, the man Jim O'Brien probably once called, the perfect basketball player, has found a new job in hoops.
The former fan and Tommy Heinsohn-favorite will be the North Shore Tides' first head coach.
The Tides are an expansion franchise with the American Basketball Association. They will be, as far as I can tell, the only team in New England. The perennial powerhouse Vermont Frost Heaves are now defunct.
According to the league's Wikipedia page, the ABA will be adding 24 expansion teams to the league in 2013. That includes three teams in New York: the New York Jamm, New York Lightening and Brooklyn Blackout.
In a press release issued earlier this year, the team announced former Boston Celtics and fictional Lincoln High Railsplitters player, Walter McCarty would be the new head coach.
We are Happy to welcome Walter McCarty as the new Head
Coach of the North Shore Tides! We look forward to having him as the

Best Move: Adding Doc Rivers as Head Coach
First, of course resigning Chris Paul is the Clippers’ off season gem so far. You would be one heck of a writer to convince anyone that getting perhaps the number one point guard in the league to commit to a team...
Jamal Crawford and Tyreke Evans put on a crowd-pleasing show at the 2013 Jamal Crawford Pro Am All-Star game in Seattle over the weekend as the two showed off their incredible handles and even combined for 89 points. The excitement went down to the wire as Evans missed a potential game-winner with under 10 seconds to go and Jamal Crawford drilled a deep 3 at the buzzer to give his...
TELL ME I WON'T
Chris Paul reportedly threatened to leave the Clippers and sign with the Rockets when the Doc Rivers trade talk initially broke down.
Jamal Crawford has a pro-am named after him, so of course he’s going to get a lot of buckets during games he participates in.
Crawford and Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans went at each other Sunday, trading basket after basket, until Crawford finished it, hitting a buzzer beating three to win the game.
Good news for Pelicans fans, Evans’ jumper was silky smooth yesterday.

Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and Carmelo Anthony are traveling the Far East with the Air Jordan Flight Tour. The three NBA superstars stopped in Taiwan to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before The Brother Elephants of New Taipei City played a game.
The three NBAers didn’t embarrass themselves but both Anthony and Paul balked while Blake Griffin fired a strike.
The Doc Rivers to the Clippers deal was on and off, several different times before it was finally agreed to.
What finally nudged the Clippers over the hump, and allowed Donald Sterling and management to pull the trigger on the deal?
Well if you believe Bill Simmons and the crew over at GRANTLAND, then it was a threat from star point guard Chris Paul that finally pushed the Clippers...
He’s been compared to Chris Paul, led tiny Long Island University to two NIT titles and began his professional career in the club leagues that predate the NBA. Ossie Schectman, who boasted many long-forgotten accomplishments on the basketball court, died Tuesday, according to CNN. He was 94.
Schectman is best known — if he is known at all — for scoring the first basket in NBA...
Who knew the Mayor of Seattle has a pretty decent ball game.
Tyreke Evans made the trip to Seattle, to participate in a Seattle Pro-Am game against Clippers guard, and host of the pro-am, Jamal Crawford.
In this video courtesy of Ball Is Life, Tyreke Evans felt the need to do the Mayor Seattle, Mike McGinn dirty with this in and out crossover that had the Mayor on skates.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, free agent, Ryan Gomes, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 30-year-old forward played in Germany last season where he averaged 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game for the Artland Dragons.
Gomes last played in the NBA for the Clippers in 2011-12, averaging 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 13 minutes...
Cal baseball's latest 2014 commit only started watching college baseball when childhood friend Chris Paul debuted for the Golden Bears, and now, two years later, he's set to join Paul and fellow former Long Beach Breaker Robbie McInerny in blue and gold.
