Washington Wizards: Okafor Injury Will Hurt

For the Washington Wizards to finally get back to the playoffs this year in a tough Eastern Conference, you get the feeling that everything needs to go right for them. Well, the dreaded injury bug has struck Washington for a second year running, first with Chris Singleton breaking a bone in his foot during a voluntary workout last week that has benched him for six to eight weeks and now the real kicker, with this latest injury to starting center, Emeka Okafor. The big man is out “indefinitely” with a herniated disc, an injury that has seemingly come out of nowhere and has struck the Wizards a cruel, heavy blow.
Okafor might have averaged 9.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in 79 games for Washington last season, numbers that can be duplicated, but the loss of the defensive center will hurt in multiple ways. First and foremost, the strong frontcourt duo of Okafor and Nene is gone now, with Nene now being ...
