Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul is annually among the top of the NBA in assists but in the opening game of the Clippers semi-final series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Paul called his own number more times than usual.
CP3 buried eight three pointers on his way to 32 points Monday evening as the Clippers routed OKC 122-105. Watch:
Paul made 12 of his 14 shot attempts while also dished out 10 assists on the night.
The Clippers offense is fueled by CP3 getting Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan open looks around the basket and the Thunder’s strategy appeared to be to keep Paul on the outside and out of the paint when defending the pick-and-roll, and Paul seemed to be very aware of the tactic and took full advantage of it.
Game 2 of the series is Wednesday in Oklahoma City before the series travels to Los Angeles for game 3. Expect the Thunder to revise their defensive strategy and try to keep Paul under wraps in game 2.
