Well-timed defense

Sometimes, you pick your spots where you want to exert lots of defensive energy. Mediocre at best most of the evening on the defensive end, the Mavericks have forced a turnover and a rushed jumper at the shot-clock buzzer. They scored after both of them, including a wide-open 3-pointer by Jason Terry in the corner. Worse news for Detroit is that Rodney Stuckey hobbled off the court with what looked like a left-ankle injury. --Eddie Sefko
