Photo credit: Greg M. Cooper/USA TODAY Sports When you're on the verge of entering the 7th year of a three-year plan, hearing the same question over and over again might become mind numbing. However, this is the year when the most difficult decisions will be made due to factors such as Pierce's contract, Garnett's surgeries/potential retirement and Rondo's return from ACL injury that come into play. There'll be talk of rebuilding through draft (which I believe would be the worst decision a big market team makes), blowing it up, letting people go and signing free agents... However, what Danny Ainge has been doing so far is smart: Try to get something for your superstars, and if not, just let them play to a crowd. Chris Mannix of SI agrees with that notion: “I would do exactly what Danny’s been doing to this point,” added Mannix. “If you can trade one of them and get a lot in return, get something that you know is going to help reboot your franchise, do it. If not...

Kevin Garnett receives an MVP vote, finishes tied for 12th in voting

In his 18th season in the NBA, Kevin Garnett is still an incredibly valuable player. You can see some of that value in his stats (14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in just 29.7 minutes), you can see it on the scoreboard (the Celtics were 6 points better per 100 possessions this season with KG on the court, compared to when he sat), and you can see it in the MVP voting. Wait...

Doc Rivers, Celtics Do ‘Need More’ Next Season, But Fans Might Not Like What It Takes to Get There

In the immediate aftermath of the Celtics’ loss to the Knicks last Friday, Doc Rivers had no answers as to what his team could look like when the 2013-14 season tips off. All things considered, it was probably better that way. Rivers believes he has to “immerse” himself in the moment to be an effective in-game coach, and there was no more vital moment in which to immerse himself...

Boston Globe's Gary Washburn trolls the MVP vote

Boston Globe national basketball and Boston Celtics reporter Gary Washburn published a defense of his decision to cast his NBA MVP vote for Carmelo Anthony. Washburn’s vote prevented Lebron James from becoming the first unanimous MVP in NBA history. James received 120 out of 121 first place votes to win the award for the fourth consecutive season. Washburn’s decision has generated...

Celtics rumors: Kevin Garnett mulling retirement?

Opinion: Al Jefferson-Celtics reunion would be ideal

Ronald Martinez/ Getty Images BOSTON—I want # 7 back. No, not Trot Nixon or J.D. Drew but “Big Al” Jefferson. He has not donned a Celtic Green uniform since the end of the 2007 season. In case you forgot, he was part of the blockbuster Kevin Garnett deal that helped the Celtics win Banner 18, one that up until that juncture, had been eluding them for 18 seasons.  He began...

Doc Rivers returning to the Boston Celtics?

Doc Rivers has three years left on his current contract with the Boston Celtics, but following the team’s first-round ouster in the 2013 NBA playoffs, it appears he’s uncertain about his future. When asked if he would be back in Boston for the 2013-14 season Rivers said, “I don’t know.” That’s not a good sign for the Celtics, who continue to get older and need the force...

Suns Hire Ryan McDonough, Key in Celtics’ Player Evaluation for Last Decade, as General Manager

From Rajon Rondo and Glen Davis to Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger, the Celtics had a key player behind the scenes aiding their player evaluation efforts. That man, Ryan McDonough, will no longer be working toward bringing an 18th championship banner to Boston. The 33-year-old was named general manager of the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, making the Hingham, Mass., native one of the...

2013 NBA Draft: Who could be the next "big" thing for Boston?

Now that the 2012-2013 season is over for the Celtics, it's time to start thinking about the draft. This year's crop of college players is nothing to write home about, but there are some who could be decent role players for years to come. Boston needs size and a guard who can handle the ball. Luckily, there are plenty of players like that to choose from. Here are some big...

Danny Ainge Takes Full Responsibility for Celtics' Loss

After the Celtics failed to comeback and win Game 6 last night, Danny Ainge owned up for his teams failures. “I take full responsibility for our team not being as good as New York. That is not Doc’s fault, and that is not KG’s fault or Paul Pierce’s fault or Rajon Rondo’s fault." Before the regular season began, Danny Ainge appeared to have pulled off a series of...
