Found May 03, 2012 on Celtics Life:
As the Celtics & Hawks continue their playoff tussle this week, I found it only appropriate this week in WTHHT to remember a former Celtic & Hawk.  Imagine having had an opportunity to be on the (arguably) greatest NBA team of all time, the 1986 Celtics.  Imagine being on them to start the year but blowing your chance.  Imagine never recovering from that and never making it back to the NBA, period.  This week in What the Hell Happened To, those imaginations are remembered as a reality for Sly Williams. It was a rags-to-riches story for Sly Williams had been raised fatherless in the projects of New Haven, one of 16 children. Just like WTHHT predecessor Marvin Barnes, Sly was the focus of a major recruiting war between Providence College and the University of Rhode Island, even committing to both places originally.  Unlike Marvin, he chose URI.  When he left for the NBA after his junior year, he had set the school's season scoring record. In the 1979 draft he was the t...

Ray Allen, Josh Smith game time decisions

Via the Globe: Ray Allen participated through the entire [shoot around]and is considered a game-time decision after missing the past 11 games with bone spurs in his right ankle. Allen also made it through the team's entire practice Thursday, offering hope that he can return to the lineup. That's certainly more than Ray has been able to do in past sessions......

Paul Pierce is a legend: ‘Tebow’ captain!

Paul Pierce is the captain of the Boston Celtics. He has gone from a Celtic that drifted from season to season, never accomplishing much. Today, he can let his record speak for itself, an NBA champion and Finals MVP. Pierce surpassed Larry Bird to move into number 2 on the Celtics all-time scoring list. He [...]

Signs pointing to Ray Allen returning tonight

#CelticsTalk: Still no official word on #Celtics Ray Allen, but he did more during his pre-game workout than he has since the injury.— A. Sherrod Blakely (@SherrodbCSN) May 4, 2012 Ray Allen went through warm ups, but reports are that Ray went through his normal pre-game routine. Something he hasn't done since being injured. The Boston Celtics: Quick to capitalize on a moment

If you've ever bought anything from the Celtics official team store, you get bombarded with emails for special offers.  After getting an email advertising "2 shirts for $30"... I figured I'd tool around to see if they had anything good.  And then I stumbled on this.  It's pretty funny, actually, that they turned this photo around so quickly... even turning...

Ray Allen back, Josh Smith out for Game 3

BOSTON — It seems like the Boston Celtics never enter a game with 15 available bodies. But with Ray Allen returning with “no restrictions” tonnight, Doc Rivers’ team is at full strength — at least for one night. Rivers cautioned that Allen could have to miss more time at a later date if his ankle [...]

Paul Pierce 'Tebows' After Leading Celtics to Big Playoff Win (Video)

Paul Pierce did his best Tim Tebow impersonation on Tuesday night. The Celtics captain scored 36 points in Boston's Game 2 win in Atlanta, leading Boston back from as many as 11 down in the second half onto a 87-80 win. Pierce's heroics were rather reminiscent of some of Tebow's comeback victories during the 2011-12 football season. The Truth flexed his basketball muscles...

Ray Allen Showing No Signs Of Rust With Strong First Half Against Hawks

Ray Allen quickly put to rest any doubts about his ability to be effective. Despite missing over three weeks with a right ankle injury, Allen entered at the 4:40 mark in the first quarter against Atlanta and quickly got to work, making two jump shots in the opening period. Prior to the game, Doc Rivers noted that Friday night's game would Allen's first time playing full court...

Paul's 36 lead Rondo-less Celts

Paul Pierce battled through another tough shooting night to score 36 points, and the Boston Celtics wiped out Atlanta's 11-point lead in the second half even without Rajon Rondo -- stunning the Hawks 87-80 Tuesday night in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The series is tied 1-1. Game 3 is Friday night in Boston, and Rondo will be back for the Celtics in that one, his...

That’s Dr Shaq to you

It is hard to believe that Shaquille O’Neal left LSU nearly 20 years ago following his junior season.  While the former NBA center has many accomplishments on the hardwood and was always entertaining to an extent off it, the one thing we rarely heard about was how he didn’t just give up on his education.  [...]

Celtics survive overtime thriller with 90-84 victory over the Atlanta Hawks

Boston squeezed out a win in overtime over the Atlanta Hawks,  90-84.  This series has been one where the team that should have won has lost or nearly lost, with Boston taking game two without Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen while barely winning at full strength and Atlanta missing Joe Johnson. This whole series has been neck and neck.  Game three was no different as both teams...

Celtics 90, Hawks 84: All wins counts the same, thankfully

I’m still not sure exactly how an 11-point lead dissolved into a tie game in less than three milliseconds, but only a cruel god would have subjected us to five extra minutes of that sludge. Thankfully, the Celtics prevailed in overtime against an Atlanta Hawks team that brought a lot of effort if not a lot of talented players healthy enough to compete. For all the interesting...

Pierce's big night helps the Boston Celtics tie series with the Atlanta Hawks

The Boston Celtics tied up their first-round playoff series with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night with a 87-80 victory. Without suspended point guard Rajon Rondo the Celtics were able to rally in the fourth quarter and stun the Hawks on their home court.   Paul Pierce was able to carry Boston offensively with his 36 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds. Kevin Garnett chipped...
