(As NBA owners work to settle the lockout, only now are the actual losses of games becoming real. To that end, we will offer a look on each scheduled game day of what would have been in play for the Miami Heat had they actually been playing.)
The schedule: The Heat were scheduled to play Thursday night at AmericanAirlines Arena against the Magic at 8 p.m., in a game scheduled to be televised nationally on TNT.
The expected hype: This would have been the second night of a back-to-back set for both teams. The Magic were scheduled for their home opener on Wednesday night against the Bobcats, while the Heat were scheduled to be in New York in the Knicks’ home opener. Many of the usual Heat-Magic issues would have been in play, from Stan Van Gundy’s coaching return, to Chris Bosh having to take minutes in the middle against Dwight Howard, to the Heat lacking a true defensive presence at point guard to contend with the speed of Jameer Nelson.
