The NBA may play second fiddle to the NFL in this country but not as far as I'm concerned. I'm an NBA junkie and can't get enough of it...even with all of its many foibles.
Loyal readers of this blog know that from time to time I enjoy writing about a running list of NBA players I affectionately call My Guys. Here is my current 12-man roster of players I really like:
Monta Ellis
Boris Diaw
Rajon Rondo
Deron Williams
Derrick Rose
David Lee
Josh Smith
Serge Ibaka
Samuel Dalembert
Matt Barnes
Andray Blatche
Darko Milicic
Right now the last three guys on the list are in jeopardy of being replaced. Although I still like this trio there are seven other players who are on the verge of cracking the roster. The Sensational Seven are:
DeAndre Jordan - I love Jordan's game so much now that I'm going to be changing my name to DeAndre Decker tomorrow morning.
Eric Gordon - This just in: The Clippers are an exciting basketball team and Gordon is a major reason. As far as I know he doesn't have a nickname but I'm going to dub him Pure. Outside of Ray Allen nobody in the league has a sweeter shot.
Evan Turner - While Turner has certainly struggled in his rookie season I'm not giving up on him. I still think he's eventually going to be a big star in the league. It may be for a different team or in a different system but the silky smooth Turner is the real deal.
Russell Westbrook - Quite simply, Westbrook is on the verge of super stardom. Durant might get more acclaim but within a year Westy is going to be considered as one of the top ten players in the world.
Ryan Anderson - This versatile big man can do it all and just needs someone to give him a chance. If Anderson ever gets 30-35 minutes a game there is no doubt in my mind he'll be a top tier NBA player.
George Hill - Another guy with the entire package. Very similar skills as Westbrook and eventually will be the face of the Spurs.
DeJuan Blair - I don't care if Blair doesn't have any ACL's, the guy is a beast in the paint.
If any of the seven are officially added to the My Guys roster I'll be sure to let you know.
