Found May 07, 2013 on Taking Bad Schotz:

After exiting in the first round, the Clippers historic season turned into an incredibly disappointing one. While there are many reasons why the Clippers failed to reach the second round (including a power house Memphis team), the blame seems to be falling on their Head Coach Vinny Del Negro. I for one have never been a fan of Del Negro’s coaching style. I think his offense is too stagnant and his rotations are a step above atrocious. Although the Clippers have not officially said Vinny will not be returning next year, he pretty much sealed his fate by getting tremendously outcoached by Lionel Hollins in this years playoffs. So who will replace Vinny Del Negro? Here are some names I have been hearing: 1. Chauncey Billups  via clippers.topbuzz.com Ok, this rumor has been spreading, because of a Ric Bucher tweet, that if the Clippers want to keep CP3 they should hire Chauncey as coach. Let me put it as simple as this. Chauncey Billups will not be the head coach of the 2013-2014 Los Angeles Clippers. Don’t get me wrong, I think Chauncey will eventually make a great NBA coach, but he has said already that he still wants to play for another couple years. PLUS as much as CP3 loves Chauncey, I doubt he wants to be an experiment for him as a coach. Percent Chance of Happening: 0% 2. Phil Jackson Photo Credit: KIM JOHNSON FLODIN/ AP PHOTO The Zen Master…How many NBA teams are trying to get him to return to coaching? The Nets, The Cavaliers, and heck he even took a job working for the Pistons to help them pick a coach. It is clear that Phil misses the game and wants to come back, but he is only going to come back to the perfect situation. The clear frontrunner for Phil should be the Lakers, but it seems like they don’t want him so that opens the door for the rest of the NBA.  The big question is: Do the Clippers have what Phil wants? I mean they have the talent, are located in Los Angeles, and will give him basically all the power he is requesting. But the key factor is that he is with Jeanie Buss and I doubt he would ever come coach the city rival of the Lakers because of that. Plus I don’t think Phil would want to coach under Donald Sterling. So don’t get your hopes up Clipper fans. Percent Chance of Happening: 1% (Okay now to the real candidates) 3. Stan Van Gundy Photo Credit: Reuters Now here is a candidate that is reasonable and I think a great fit. Stan got fired over Dwight Howard’s indecisive actions at the end of his tenure there.  The Clippers should capitalize on one of the best basketball minds still being on the market before a team like Milwaukee scoops him up. There seems to be a consensus that this is a match made in heaven for both sides. Stan gets to be in Los Angeles, coach one of the most talented teams in the NBA, and will probably get a nice size check. For the Clippers, they need a defensive coach that promotes defense first and that can teach Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan how to defend in the post. Stan brings a spirited and devoted coaching style that will work very well with the two stars in Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Stan also is very good at utilizing role player’s specific skills (see J.J. Redick). Plus this is a coach that got a mediocre 2009 Orlando Magic team to the finals. Can we just make this happen already? Percent Chance of Happening: 20% 4. Jeff Van Gundy via thebrooklyngame.com The other brother of Stan, Jeff is probably the bigger name in the NBA right now. Listening to his color commentating is music to my ears. He brings up things that nobody else talks about. His insight to the game is clearly at an elite level and he has shown he can be a great coach in the NBA. Now will he leave his cushy job as a commentator to become a head coach? Most of the buzz surrounding Jeff is going towards the Nets who would probably offer him a much better deal financially than the Clippers. So there are a lot of factors that will go into whether Jeff would even be interested in the Clipper job, but if he is then I think he should be at or at least near the top for them. Percent Chance of Happening: 10% 5. Jerry Sloan msn.foxsports.com Jerry Sloan and the Clippers could be a perfect match on the offensive end. Sloan is known for his pick and roll offense and who better to be running that system than Chris Paul. Plus he is the guy who coached Karl Malone, who is a great example of who Blake should be trying to shape his game after. The players will respect him and this team is pretty similar to his Utah Jazz teams of the 90’s. On paper this might be even a better match then Stan Van Gundy, but does Jerry want to coach again? I’ve heard many things that say Jerry wants to come back, so the Clippers should be getting the red carpet ready and jumping at the chance to get a coach of his caliber. Percent Chance of Happening: 20% 6. Other Coaches Other names that I have heard that are not as high profile as these guys above are: Nate McMillan (great defensive coach), Byron Scott (Chris Paul’s old coach in New Orleans), Alvin Gentry (do not really understand this one), Mike Malone (one of the leagues top assistant coaches who deserves chance at a head coaching job), Larry Brown (a reunion between Brown and the Clippers, doubt it), Brian Shaw (could turn into a poor man’s Phil Jackson) and there are many other names. A lot of coaches will want to coach this young and talented team, but one of the major drawbacks for a coach is Donald Sterling. I think he has gotten a lot better then he has been in the past, but he still has the reputation as one of the worst owners in all of professional sports. For all we know Donald Sterling will take the cheap route and hire somebody who I have no even listed. Percent Chance of Happening: 49% -Noah
