As if last night's league mandated win by the Los Angeles Lakers wasn't enough of a slap in the face for basketball purists. We are now forced to endure even more allegations of league corruption, this time coming from the mouth of the disgraced Tim Donaghy. The ex-official insists that personal relationships have affected the outcomes of games for years, including two playoff series in 2002, ahem allegedly.
Here is the full legal filing by Donaghy's attorney. Some of the highlights include the very apropos:
"If the NBA wanted a team to succeed, league officials would inform referees that opposing players were getting away with violations. Referees then would call fouls on certain players, frequently resulting in victory for the opposing team." For the record, both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were in foul trouble by the end of the first half last night.
