PORTLAND - Jordan Crawford's fadeaway 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Washington Wizards a 98-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Monday night at the Rose Garden. It was the fifth win in seven games for the Wizards (9-30), who hold victories over Oklahoma City, Atlanta and Denver during that string. Nene and Martell Webster each scored 24 points for Washington. Damian Lillard scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead five players in double figures for the Trail Blazers (20-21), who suffered their sixth straight defeat. Baskets off consecutive Portland turnovers gave the Wizards a 95-90 edge with 58.7 seconds to go. Lillard hit a driving layup to close it to 95-92 with 44 seconds left. After a Washington miss, Wesley Matthews drained a 3-pointer to tie the score at 95-95 with 7.9 seconds to play. The Portland Trail Blazers Understand The Secret

To the surprise of many, the Portland Trail Blazers are very much in the hunt for the Western Conference Playoffs despite finishing ten games under .500 last season. Although Portland still cannot compete with the likes of Oklahoma City and San Antonio, they are only a few pieces away from being a championship contender. In The Big Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons, the Sports Guy...

Lillard and Crawford shine for Portland and Washington

Although Damian Lillard didn’t play at a high level division 1 school in college he is showing everyone that he still has game. Lillard is right in the middle of being the Rookie of the Year. He has started for Portland since day one. In a recent game against the Wizards Lillard had a monster dunk. Lillard beat his man off the dribble and then put Nene on a poster dunking on him...

Close Games Bring Portland Trail Blazers To A Crossroads

Close but no cigar, a commonly used phrase for coming up short accurately describes the outcome of the Portland Trail Blazers in the last 10 games. Over the course of those 10 games, the outcome has been decided by 6 points or less and the last 6 games have not gone in the Blazers favor. For Blazer fans this stretch of games has been unnerving and deflating. At the halfway point...

Nicolas Batum dealing with wrist injury, shoots poorly Saturday

There's an explanation for Nicolas Batum's poor shooting in the Blazer's loss Saturday to the Milwaukee Bucks: The French phenom is dealing with an sore wrist. Batum made just two of his nine shots, finishing with seven points (a three-pointer), seven rebounds, five assists and a steal. Blazers beat writer Jason Quick reports that Batum injured his right wrist while...

Trail Blazers fall to Wizards, drop 6th straight

Two Steps Back Holding yourself among the playoff contenders in the NBA is done by sustaining hot streaks and not falling into periods where your team does not play well. All too often do we see teams get hot at one moment and jump into playoff contention only to hit a cold streak and fall off the face of the earth. The Portland Trail Blazers (20-21) are currently doing the latter...

This is what it sounds like when you lose to the Wizards on a buzzer beater...

Yesterday we saw the winning side of a dramatic buzzer beater with this great Butler radio call of their last second victory over Gonzaga.  But what about the losing side?  Nothing brings AA more perverse delight than hearing a dejected buzzer beater call when an announcer's soul is crushed.  Check out this call from Blazers announcer Mike Barrett last night as the Wizards...
