DENVER -- For Nene, it was hard to tell which was sweeter. The Wizards' power forward returned Friday to Denver, where he spent nine NBA seasons before the Nuggets traded him to Washington last March. And the Wizards won the game in his return, beating the Nuggets 112-108. That was nice. But possibly nicer was a win on the road for a team that hasn't enjoyed many road victories in 2012-13. "It was great, for sure," Nene said. "Before the game I was emotional. But it's still a game. We still have to play hard. My teammates did a great job. It was a fun game. Better with the win." Nene cut postgame interviews short so he could catch up with Nuggets coach George Karl. The two men survived cancer during Nene's tenure in Denver, and Nene wanted a quick word with his former coach before leaving town Friday. Karl said prior to the game he expects to keep in touch with Nene in the years to come. Nene was treated to a highlight video played o...

Most NBA coaches want more out of their players on the court. Denver Nuggets coach George Karl wants JaVale McGee to play like Tim Duncan, arguably the greatest NBA power forward of all-time. How does Karl expect McGee to play like Duncan? The answer may surprise you:
“I think he tries to be spectacular,” Karl said of McGee. “Basketball is a game of possession after possession...
The Heat have signed forward Jarvis Varnado to a second 10-day contract, the team announced Sunday.
Varnado signed his first 10-day contract on Jan. 9 and has played in a total of 12 minutes over two games since that deal.
The Heat also announced Sunday that they have signed forwardcenter Chris Andersen to a 10-day contract.
Andersen, nicknamed "Birdman," has played...
“Probably simple and solid,” Karl said, when asked what he tells McGee most. “I think he tries to be spectacular. Basketball is a game of possession after possession of doing things the right way, doing your job and letting the spectacular come. I think JaVale tries to find the spectacular and forces the spectacular when if you just let Andre Miller and Ty [Lawson], let us...
JaVale McGee provides his share of highlights — and lowlights — every game, but occasionally he pulls off a play so jaw-dropping that it reminds everybody why his teams put up with his hijinks.
The Nuggets big man had one of those moments in Tuesday’s game against the Trail Blazers. As McGee lurked in front of the hoop, point guard Ty Lawson fired a lob toward the general vicinity...

A few weeks ago, I fussed about the fact that choosing a game MVP for the Wizards was such a difficult task, considering how poorly the team played, both individually and as a group. This morning, I find myself fussing...
After working Chris Andersen out, and telling him to hang tight if possible, the Heat added the veteran center/forward to the roster on a 10-day contract Sunday morning.
It did so while signing Jarvis Varnado to a second 10-day contract, and passing on Josh Harrellson, who was interested in pursuing more playing time elsewhere.
If there wasn’t time for Harrellson, it will be interesting...

The Miami Heat have signed Andersen to a 10-day contract. The Heat also brought forward-center Jarvis Varnado back for a second 10-day deal.
Andersen, whose nickname around the league is "Birdman," worked out for the Heat about two weeks ago and remained in the team's plans.

DENVER -- The Washington Wizards used an 18-4 run to start the fourth quarter to rally past the Denver Nuggets 112-108 on Friday night. Washington's Bradley Beal blocked Ty Lawson's lay-up attempt in the final seconds to deny Denver a chance to tie the game and force overtime. The Wizards won their fourth game in their past five and improved their road record to 2-16...
