A New Low

There have been several heart breaking moments in the last week for the Portland Trail Blazers, but last night’s beatdown at the hands of the lowly Washington Wizards is clearly the low point of the season thus far.

BOXSCORE | My POST GAME NOTES
Washington 124, Portland 109
When: 10:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Where: Rose Garden, Portland, Oregon
Officials: #56 Mark Ayotte, #58 Josh Tiven, #59 Gary Zielinski
Attendance: 20558

The Rose Garden is a great home crowd advantage for them, and this was the perfect chance to get back on track, but the Blazers failed to show up.

Onto the Love ‘em and Hate ‘em for last nights Wizards game.

Love ’Em

1.Gerald Wallace

Gerald Wallace filled up the stat sheet with 25 points eight assist and four rebounds last night. He went 11 out of 12 from the free throw line.

When Wallace is being aggressive and getting to the free throw line often, it definitely makes the Blazers offense much better.

2. Free Throw Shooting

As a team the Blazers shot 22 for 27 from the line. 82% from the line is a mark that most teams would love to hit on any given night.

Hate ’Em

1. LaMarcus Aldridge Sprained Ankle

LaMarcus Aldridge sprained his ankle after playing only two minutes in this game. He won’t be playing in tonight’s game, and it is hard to tell how long he will be out.

This team simply cannot afford to miss Aldridge for very long, because he has established himself as this team’s star.

2. Pathetic Defense

It is absolutely ridiculous that the Blazers would allow a team like the Washington Wizards to shoot 60% from the floor! John Wall made 10 out of 14 shots from the floor, and Nick Young knocked down 12 out of 17 shots from the floor.

How could a team that prides itself on defense put forth such a terrible effort?

3. Backcourt Blunders

The guard trio of Raymond Felton, Jamal Crawford, and Wesley Matthews combined to make 9 out of 23 shots from the floor for 22 points. The Wizards backcourt trio of Wall, Young, and Crawford made an astounding 31 out of 47 shots for 85 points.

It’s tough to win a game when your backcourt is dominated that badly.

It’s gut check time for our Blazers after an embarrassing loss like this one. Portland has a tough game at Golden State tonight.

The Blazers are now just 15-14 on the season.

Amazing numbers from Wizards’ win over Portland

If Nick Young is shooting imaginary arrows after hitting three-pointers, JaVale McGee is blowing a kiss to the crowd after hitting a foul line jumper and John Wall has a been-there-done-that nonchalance after knocking down his second three-point attempt in 17 tries, then it’s probably going to be a decent night for the Wizards.
