MEMPHIS -- For 17 consecutive games, Dorell Wright didn't score in double figures. In the last four games prior to Wednesday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Philadelphia 76ers forward showed signs of life, averaging 15 points. He achieved liftoff Wednesday in the FedExForum, exploding for a season-high 28 points as the 76ers hammered the Rudy Gay-less Grizzlies 99-89. Gay wasn't even in the building because of personal reasons; he supposedly had flight delays because of inclement weather after going home for Christmas to the East Coast. Maybe his defense could have helped slow Wright, who came into Wednesday averaging eight points, and that was after back-to-back efforts of 25 and 20 points a week ago at Dallas and at Houston, respectively. Wright, in the starting line for an injured Jason Richardson (lower back strain) hit seven of 10 shots, including five of eight 3-pointers. His last 3-pointer with 3:16 left the 76ers an 11-point lead, and he f...

Dorell Wright enjoyed the two best seasons of his career with the Golden State Warriors before being shipped to the Philadelphia 76ers in a cost-cutting move during the offseason.
With Jason Richardson ailing, he may get another start to show his former team what it's missing.

It's not often that we see an NBA big man go behind-the-back in a game but that's what Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol did last night.
The below clip shows him putting the ball behind-his-back and finishing with a spin move that leads to a made fadeaway jumper:
Poor LaVoy Allen...didn't even see it coming...

Today, I could write a nice “I told you so” piece on Dorell
Wright being inserted into the Philadelphia 76ers’ starting lineup, but I’m not
Instead I’m too cynical right now of a team that’s just
14-15 overall and has shot just 44 percent from the field while scoring just
93.6 points per game this season. To add onto all of...
The Philadelphia 76ers have lost six straight on the road, but that's not the only reason coach Doug Collins isn't in a good mood during the holidays.
Things probably won't get any easier Wednesday night against a Memphis Grizzlies team that is 12-2 at home and coming off its worst loss of the season.

Making His Marc
Tonight in Memphis, the below .500 Sixers took the floor on the second game of an 8-game road trip against a Grizzly squad that's been one of the better teams in the West this year. They were without starting shooting guard Jason Richardson, who has given them much more than expected this year, and with second-year center Lavoy Allen in the lineup at center...
