Zach Randolph does not have a reputation for being a nice guy on the court. He is especially unkind to opposing big men who stand between him and the hoop.
The Grizzlies forward does have respect for a select few true low-post players, which he thinks are a dying breed in the NBA. Randolph joined Bill Simmons of Grantland for an interview that touched on many topics, including which players are the most challenging for Randolph to bang with on the block. Randolph, 31, has career averages of 17.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in 12 NBA seasons.
Randolph named Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan, two veteran 7-footers, but could not come up with a younger player to add to the list.
“A lot of older guys,” Randolph said. “The post, they don’t really teach that much no more. … Older type of guys who know how to play you and grab you and hold you and get away with stuff.”
