2007 Fantasy Football Running Back Busts

The Running Back position is one of the key aspects when it comes to your fantasy football team's success. Draft an underperformer at Quarterback or Wide Receiver, and the damage can usually be fixed by creative uses of the waiver wire. However, draft a Running Back that turns into a BUST, and well, you're up s**t creek without a paddle.

Avoid the pain and discomfort. Take care of that nauseous stomach before it even occurs by perusing the Running Back edition of the Bruno Boys Bring Out the Pepto. We've done the hard work and found the most likely candidates to BUST your season this year. Take advantage. But, if you don't, don't tell us we didn't try to warn you.

Ranking System: The higher the "Bring out the Pepto" ranking, the more likely a player is to bust.

Clinton Portis -- Washington Redskins

Clinton Portis' fantasy football career has closely resembled the many characters he portrays during media sessions -- in that it's also been a bit schizophrenic. From Rookie Sensation (2002 -- Denver Broncos) to Fantasy Champion (2003 -- you do remember the championship belt on the sideline, right?) to Decent Back (2004 -- Washington Redskins) to Fantasy Stud (2005) to Wounded Man (2006), Portis has been all over the map, which makes him difficult to gage heading into 2007.

Many believe that since Portis has had some time to recover from the injuries he suffered last season, he should be good to go in 2007. They expect him to put up similar numbers to the ones he tallied in 2005, especially since the injuries in 2006 had nothing to do with his legs. We, here at the Bruno Boys, are not quite ready to jump on that bandwagon, and instead have decided to give Portis FOUR BOTTLES OF PEPTO.

Portis' durability is still a concern despite the off-season of rest. The injuries Portis suffered last year, only go to show that Portis' body is giving into the wear and tear it's been subjected to. Remember, Portis carried the ball more than 340 times in both 2004 and 2005. That takes a toll on any running back. This year already Portis is dealing with knee issues, not something you want in a running back.

Even if Portis doesn't get injured, the questions surrounding his durability will lead Joe Gibbs and Co. to carefully control the number of carries Portis gets each game. And, why wouldn't they? In Ladell Betts, the Redskins have a stud as a back-up back. In fact, after his five 100+ yard games towards the end of 2006, Betts very well could have started on many other teams around the league. Gibbs and Co. won't let Betts talent go to waste. They'll plug him in, let Portis rest, and enjoy the fruits of a RBBC.

Ranked 15th in the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Draft Cheat Sheet, Portis comes with a lot of questions that make us weary of using him as our RB 2.

How about Rueben Droughns, Fred Taylor, Domminick Rhoades, Chester Taylor, Najah Davenpoop, Mike Bell, Tatum Bell, Kevin Jones, Julius Jones, Thomas Jones, Rainman Jones, and Jonas Jennings? While I'm at it how comes people ask who to start on their fantasy teams? If they always ask other people and win their league, where are the bragging rights. That's like being the head coach but allowing all your ASSistants to call the plays.
