What will Darren McFadden do as a follow-up to his huge day in Denver?
After reviewing which signal-callers to sit in Week 8, here’s our look at which running backs fantasy owners should shy away from this week, at least in my opinion. Sit RBCedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals: Benson has found the end zone only three times thus far this season (twice rushing, once receiving), has topped 100 yards only once in six games, and his YPC is pretty unsightly (3.9). He might well get his share against the Dolphins, but it’ll take a good amount of carries to do so against a Miami defense allowing only 3.8 yards per rush.
Chris Ivory, New Orleans Saints: After running for 158 yards on 15 carries in a win at Tampa Bay in Week 6, Ivory was held to 48 yards on 15 carries last Sunday against Cleveland. I don’t see him faring too well against the Steelers and their league-best run defense (2.8 yards per carry, 63.7 yards per game, longest rush allowed is only 14 yards), even at home.
Brandon Jackson, Green Bay Packers: Jackson hasn’t put up flashy numbers, but he has proven to be a versatile option as a rusher and a receiver. Against Minnesota on Sunday night, he had 13 carries for 58 yards and a score and three catches for 46 yards and a score. However, he’s going up against a markedly better defense in Week 8, as Green Bay hits the road to take on the Jets.
Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills: Jackson has totaled 73 yards rushing in back-to-back games after seeing limited action in Buffalo’s first four games. However, resist the temptation to give him a run-out this week at Kansas City, who’s allowing only 89.7 yards per game on the ground. Besides that, the Bills’ own issues with stopping the run could put them in a position of having to eschew the ground game relatively early.
Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders: So is it time to hop on the DMC bandwagon after his monster performance at Denver on Sunday? He’s certainly now showing himself to be every bit the player the Raiders hoped he would be when they selected him fourth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft, but you might be able to find a better option this week with the Raiders going up against a tough Seattle run defense, which is allowing only 3.3 yards per rush and 77.5 yards per game.
