In the NFC wildcard game the New Orleans Saints only allowed 32 rushing yards, the best of any playoff team. This was against the Detroit Lions who do not have star running back Frank Gore. Gore was the leading rusher for the San Francisco 49ers this season with 1,211 yards and 8 touchdowns. Furthermore, Gore is one of the best running backs in the league, he was ranked 6th in yards rushed this season and also had a 4.3 average yard gain.
If the Saints want to beat San Francisco they will need to stop Frank Gore and the rushing attack. Saints fans should not worry too much about their team’s rush defense; they ranked 12th in the league, giving up only 108 yards per game during the regular season. If the NFC wildcard game was any indication then the Saints defense should be able to contain Gore and not allow many rushing yards.
