The Jacksonville Jaguars have a new general manager.  They have a new coach.  And it appears they have a new philosophy for player acquisitions.  Last year the Jaguars were the fourth highest spending team during free agency.  This year they have been relatively quiet. Let's hope they are speaking softly and carrying a big ideas towards the draft.2012 Season Summary:Succinctly put it was bad.  Worse season in franchise history both statistically and by the eye test.  To say the team was inept on offense and defense is being polite. 2012 Record:The Jaguars finished the season with a franchise low two wins.  When it was all officially over their record was an abysmal 2-14.  It was bad.Positions of Need:Offense:Running BackThe offense finished 29th overall.  The offense 30th in rushing.  Maurice Jones-Drew was the leading rusher with 414 yards.  Jones-Drew was the only running back to have a 100-yard rushing performance.  Jones-Drew amassed these stats even though he did not play after being injured in the sixth game of the season. The acquisition of Justin Forsett isn't the answer.  Journeyman Forsett may be an able back-up, but the Jaguars need a number two to complement Jones-Drew running style. Offensive LineThe offensive line allowed the quarterbacks to be sacked 50 times.  The third highest amount in the league. The offense was 31st in third down efficiency at 29.6 percent. And while the inefficiency of the run can be attributed to the lack of quality running backs, it is hard to run when the defense is on you when you get the ball. Defense:Defensive LineThe defense was 30th in overall defense and 30th against the run.  The Jaguars finished with 20 sacks last year, that was last in the league.  They went three weeks, weeks 2-4,  without amassing one sack.  The rush defense surrendered 2,256 yards and 19 touchdowns.  Opponents managed to convert on 41.4 percent of third downs.  CornerbacksThe Jaguars have lost CB Derek Cox to free agency.  Cox finished last season with four interceptions and allowed one touchdown pass.  According to Pro Football focus quarterbacks had a league low passer rating of 44.5 percent against him. The Jaguars defense had only 12 interceptions as a team.  The loss of Cox, Aaron Ross and Rashean Mathis demands an infusion of new talent at the position. The acquisition of Alan Ball is a start.  But Ball has only three interceptions in 22 starts.  Jaguars also re-signed Anewaun Molden.  Last year Molden had one tackle and zero interceptions. First Round Targets:The Jaguars have the second pick in the first round.  They also contain first or second picks in rounds two through seven.  This is good because they have lots of needs to address.OT, Eric Fisher is one candidate.  Fisher is top left tackle prospect.  On a team that allowed 50 sacks protecting the blind side is a necessity. Also under consideration DE/LB Ezekial Ansah.  Ansah has made the most of his NFL Combine workout and Senior Bowl performance.  Ansah is a natural athlete who entered BYU as a track athlete.  In 2012, starting nine games Ansah had 62 tackles and 4.5 sacks.   Ansah is raw.  Bradley is a defensive genius. Draft History:20121.5 Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State2.6 Andre Branch, DE, Clemson3.7 Bryan Anger, P, California5.7 Brandon Marshall, OLB, Nevada6.6 Mike Harris, CB, FSU7.21 Jens Pendleton, DT, Ashland20111.10 Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri3.12 William Rackley, OL, Lehigh4.17 Cecil Shorts, WR, Mount Union4.24 Chris Prosinski, DB, Wyoming5.16 Rod Issac, DB, Middle Tennessee StateTrade Winds:The Jaguars have seven picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.  The 2013 draft is loaded with defensive talent.  Enough to have quality picks well into the fifth round.  Rebuilding necessitates keeping with the draft choices available. Not actively seeking a trade.  Will quietly entertain all reasonable offers.
