1: Rookie Mistakes The growing pains of Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson have been well documented. The two rookie receivers have made some plays so far this season, but also driven Tom Brady b-a-n-a-n-a-s at times with drops and misreads. Gronk's return will help in the sense that Brady will be less reliant on these unreliable (for now) players, but it won't make Thompkins and Dobson flip a switch and instantly look like seasoned veterans. The only cure for rookie mistakes is time, as no rookie season goes smoothly when the players get this kind of baptism by fire.  2: Offensive Consistency This ties into my first point about the rookie receivers. The offense, as a whole, has been very inconsistent, showing flashes of improvement in the Tampa and Atlanta games before crashing down to earth against the physical Bengals. The inconsistency has largely been a result of aforementioned rookie growing pains and missing playmakers. With Gronk back and Amendola playing for t...

Round Table: Is Brady Declining?

Are the offensive struggles solely due to the overhaul in personnel or is Tom Brady starting to show signs of decline? Jason: I think it's an 85-15 split between personnel and decline. He's not making bad decisions with the football, but he's undoubtably playing carefully with the football since he doesn't have the same trust with this receiving corps and he...

Tom Brady Cuts to the Point on Patriots Offense

Tom Brady spoke at his weekly news conference on what's ailing the Patriots offense and what the team plans to do while it waits for the return of Rob Gronkowksi. Frustration may as well have been a banner flying high above Brady's head for the past couple of days. The Patriots offense has been a far cry from where it was last year. Averaging 19 points a game, down...

Brady needs frustration to pass

The midweek NFL injury report came out Wednesday, and as usual New England did not list the most obvious item. Name: Tom Brady. Position: Quarterback. Injury: Tongue. Game Status: Probable. The Patriots' offense is a mess. As he has done throughout his career, Brady bit his tongue when asked why. By now it must be hanging together by a couple of taste buds. "I just want...

Report: ‘Serious concern’ over Rob Gronkowski’s forearm

The New England Patriots had hoped tight end Rob Gronkowski would make his season debut this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. However, Gronkowski has yet to be cleared by orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Jesse Jupiter, who performed the latest forearm surgery on Gronkowski. According to a source of WEEI.com, “there is

Explaining the Pats Red Zone Struggles

The Patriots have gone from being one of the most efficient teams in the red zone to being just about the worst (the only team that the Patriots currently rank above in turning red zone trips into touchdowns is the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they almost don't qualify as an NFL team at this point). So, what have been the main culprits of the Pats' red zone woes? ...

Report: Rob Gronkowski to play Sunday

The New England Patriots are optimistic tight end Rob Gronkowski will make his season debut Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, reports ESPN and Pro Football Talk. Gronkowski has missed the Patriots previous five games while recovering from back and forearm surgeries. The

New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots: 2013 Week 6 NFL Pick

New Orleans Saints (5-0) at New England Patriots (4-1) The Patriots had their worst offensive performance since 2006 last week. It was the first time since 2006 that they scored fewer than 7 points in a game. On top of that, Brady hadn’t had a completion percentage that low since 2007. Fortunately, help should be on its way. Stevan Ridley will be back to give them another option...

Fantasy Football: Game of the Week Preview

These two teams are a combined 9-1 this season with six Super Bowl appearances in the last 12 years. It's actually surprising and depressing that we haven't had the privilege to watch these two powerhouses perform on the biggest stage in the final game. Last year, the Saints started the season 0-4 and had a defense that allowed 28.4 points per game in 2012 (31st in the league...

New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots: 3 Bold Predictions

Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham and the New Orleans Saints travel to Foxborough on Sunday to take on Tom Brady, a finally healthy Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots.  Sean Payton's Saints go into this matchup as a one point underdog against Bill Belichick's Patriots.  These  coaches are two of the best in the game and with their excellent play calling abilities, this...

Preview: Patriots vs. Saints

Last week, the New England Patriots (4-1) fell for the first time this season as the offense once again took two steps back. For the first time in 52 games, Tom Brady failed to throw a touchdown pass in a 13-6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. New England's defense played well in the absence of Vince Wilfork, and now will be without Tommy Kelly on Sunday after Kelly left the...

We all have difficult decisions to make when setting our line up for the week. Getting into situations where you aren’t sure who to play can eat at you all week all the way up to kick off – going back and forth – for this reason or that reason. “Did I pick the right person!?” “Ahhhhhhh!!
