Given his inability to keep a straight face, Jim Harbaugh must be a horrible poker player. So it was hardly surprising when the 49ers coach told the media shortly after the Ravens' 34-31 Super Bowl win that he thought the officials missed a pass interference call on wide receiver Michael Crabtree that would've given the 49ers a first-and-goal with 1:50 to go in the game. Instead, Baltimore got the ball on downs, ran three plays, took a safety, and four seconds after Ted Ginn fielded the ensuing punt, Super Bowl XLVII was over. During an appearance this week on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco, Harbaugh was again asked about the idea of "letting players play" as it related to the Crabtree no-call. “I would say it exactly like Bill Polian: A penalty is a penalty no matter when it occurs in a game," he said via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "It could occur on the first play of the game. It could occur on the last play of the game, or any play in between. "That's the rules of football," Harbaugh continued. "You let 'em play or let 'em get away with something. Which would you rather have? Let's play the rules of the game. … If there's a penalty, then it's a penalty -- doesn't matter what kind of game. … It's the rules of football. If it's a penalty, you call it. If you see it, you call it. That's how I feel about it.” Former NFL head of officials Mike Pereira said earlier in the week on KNBR San Francisco that the officials were right to eat their whistles. “Would I have called that? No," Pereira said. "The dreaded fade pass into the corner of the end zone where there is always going to be a little bit of contact. I thought Phil Simms put it perfectly, when he called it it was a straight incomplete pass. When they showed one replay, ‘Good no call,' he said. Another replay, ‘Still good no-call by the officials.' And then the third replay, ‘Well, maybe there's a little grab there.' "Maybe you can make a case there. That's what slow motion does. It kind of presents a case that is a maybe, but there is absolutely no way in real time that you're going to say ‘any type of material restriction' and that's what the book says, any type of material restriction that would've kept Crabtree from making the catch. Then Crabtree himself gave it away because if you look when the play is over he didn't complain, he never complained one bit, he didn't feel any type of restriction. "I would say this, too, as I've said to others, as far as Jim Harbaugh giving the holding signal from the sideline, that it couldn't be, it couldn't be holding, it couldn't be illegal contact because when that contact occurred the ball was already in the air so it was either pass interference or nothing. But to me, it's nothing. "Although Harbaugh probably had a pretty good view because I think for the last few plays he was standing at the 10-yard line, 20 some odd yards away from the coaching box.” Source: CBS Sports

49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh: An Insufferable Douche Bag

When on the MTRRadio.com Super Bowl Pregame show I heard radio personality James Flippin call the 49ers coach “An Insufferable Douche Bag”.  At the time I thought it was a little harsh but not having any skin in the Super Bowl, I let it go thinking he was just over overstating his dislike a bit? A week later I realized that he was spot on. Super Bowl Winning Head Coach JOHN...

Jim Harbaugh: A Penalty is a Penalty on the first play or the last play

There has been wide debate over the last play of the Super Bowl, in which it appeared Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith was holding 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree. There was no penalty called on the play, and many are left wondering what might have been if there was. 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh was adamant that there was holding on the play, and he recently elaborated on how...

John Harbaugh to David Letterman: I haven’t spoken to Jim since Super Bowl

If the Harbaugh brothers weren’t such fierce competitors, they would not have been coaching against one another last Sunday. It has been nearly five full days since the Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, but fierce competitors hate losing. That would explain why Jim Harbaugh has still yet to speak to John Harbaugh. During an appearance on “The...

49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Won't Second-Guess Play Calls In Super Bowl Loss

Given about 40 hours to reflect, Jim Harbaugh would only acknowledge the obvious today: Why, yes, he wishes the 49ers had called a play that gained five yards during the last two minutes of the Super Bowl. Harbaugh, predictably, wasn’t in the mood for public self-flagellation when asked about San Francisco’s much-scrutinized play-calling at the end of its 34-31 loss to the Ravens...

Harbaughs haven't spoke since SB

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told David Lettermen that he hasn't spoken with his brother Jim since they met each other at midfield after the Super Bowl.

Jim Harbawawawa Still Crying

As a coach, I like Jim Harbaugh. He did a great job at Stanford and he's done a great job since being hired by the San Francisco 49ers. But let's face it...he's a cry baby. We've seen his antics on the sidelines and now he's continuing to complain about the "no call" the 49ers received, or didn't receive, in the red zone at the end of the Super Bowl...

John Harbaugh tells Letterman he hasn't spoken to brother Jim since Super Bowl

John Harbaugh sat down with David Letterman on "The Late Show" last night and revealed that he hasn't spoken to his brother Jim since the post-game handshake after his Baltimore Ravens narrowly beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII Sunday night. At the traditional midfield meeting, the winning coach lightheartedly admitted to Letterman that he told his steamed...

Jim Harbaugh: A Man Who Rarely Gives An Answer, but Cuts The B.S.

While the Super Bowl XLVII Champion Ravens and their fans were celebrating both their recent win and the career of soon to be retired 17-year veteran Ray Lewis at M&T Bank Stadium, the 49ers were back at home trying to gather themselves following the devastating loss this past Sunday. The 49ers were down by 22 points in the third quarter but were able to rally together and fight...

Jim Harbaugh still wants a penalty for Michael Crabtree interference in Super Bowl

We’ve concluded on this site that the no call on contact between Michael Crabtree and Jimmy Smith on the 49ers final offensive play in the Super Bowl was the right decision. Even Mike Pereira, one of the authoritative voices when it comes to officiating, concurred. We’re now four days removed from the game, but some people evidently can’t let things go. I’m talking about...

Jim Harbaugh Hints 49ers Won't Release QB Alex Smith

There was a report last week that 49ers QB Alex Smith will seek his release before free agency, which starts in March. On Tuesday, head coach Jim Harbaugh all but shot down the notion. “I don't think any player (asking for his release) has those wishes granted when they're under contract,” the coach said, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. “And everything...
