The 49ers are really encouraged by wide receiver Michael Crabtree’s rehab from Achilles surgery and still expect him to play at some point this season.
Harbaugh said the team also was encouraged by Michael Crabtree’s rehabilitation from a May 21 Achilles’ heal injury. The 49ers expect Crabtree to return at some point this season. The earliest an athlete who suffered a full tear like Crabtree can be expected back on the field is about six months. That means he could be back as early as November, although the team is likely to ease the receiver back into action as cautiously as possible.
“He’s hit every single goal as far as his timeline,” Harbaugh said of Crabtree. “That’s been real exciting and encouraging.”
Crabtree will begin the season on the PUP list along with Mario Manningham. He can be activated after week six of the regular season.

In swap of first round draft pick wide receivers that have come nowhere close to living up to their potential, A.J. Jenkins was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Kansas City Chiefs for wide receiver Jon Baldwin. Jenkins was the 30th overall pick out of Illinois by the Niners in 2012. Baldwin was taken 26th overall by K.C. in 2011.

This is a very interesting deal for the 49ers. The Chiefs dealing Baldwin isn’t unprecedented. He’s largely been a bust through the first two years of his career and the Head Coach/GM combo of Todd Haley and Scott Pioli that drafted him is gone. Andy Reid and John Dorsey aren’t making a mistake getting rid of him. They’re just trying to get the best 53 possible.
