Not to jinx anything but the 49ers look healthier than they’ve been since offseason workouts began in mid-April.

On Thursday, linebacker NaVorro Bowman was practicing for a second straight day in a black, no-contact jersey, apparently because of a shoulder strain. It does not appear to be hindering him, however, and that looked to be the case in this pass coverage against tight end Garrett Celek.

Cornerback Carlos Rogers (ankle) and nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga (knee, ankle) also didn’t seem bothered by injuries that kept them limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Niners CB Carlos Rogers: Jets defense gave up during 34-0 loss

Through the first four weeks of the season, the Jets offense has ultimately looked like most of us expected it to look — useless. Like in past seasons when New York made it to the AFC Championship game, it seems obvious that the team will go as far as its defense will take it this year. That is typically pretty far with Rex Ryan’s defenses, but Niners cornerback Carlos Rogers...

49ers LB NaVorro Bowman Probable, RB Brandon Jacobs, CB Carlos Rogers Questionable

The 49ers and Bills each released their final injury reports for Sunday, and the 49ers are keeping things a little bit mysterious. Coach Harbaugh has listed Brandon Jacobs, Carlos Rogers and Isaac Sopoaga as questionable. NaVorro Bowman and Andy Lee are probably. Rogers (ankle) and Sopoaga (knee, ankle) were both limited in practice this week while Brandon Jacobs was listed as...

2012 NFL top linebacker corps

The defending NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers came out of nowhere last season to become one of the league's top teams, especially on defense. One of the main factors in their new-found dominance is a quartet of LBs (Patrick Willis, Navorro Bowman, Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith) who are arguably the best unit in the NFL. Willis and Bowman both made the First-Team All-Pro...

"I think when you look at it, certainly we didn't play well, it's obvious we didn...

"I think we have a reputation in this league as being a tremendous defense and we didn't play that way. As far...

Rex Ryan fires back at Niners CB Rogers

As if this past Sunday's 34-0 drubbing at the hands of San Francisco wasn't bad enough, Ryan's Jets are now being accused of quitting by Niners cornerback Carlos Rogers.

With odds stacked, Jets look to restore pride

Mike Pettine read the quote, word for word, and was bothered. So, the New York Jets defensive coordinator printed out what San Francisco's Carlos Rogers said about the defense - that it appeared to quit last Sunday - and put it up on a PowerPoint presentation for his players to see. No gasps. No yells. No cusses. Just silence. It's Week 5 of the regular season and the...
