Once on the trash pile, 49ers linebacker Amhad Brooks has become a treasure. Lost in a very talented LB corps, Brooks has proved his worth.
In 2008, Brooks was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers waived Brooks on November 29, but re-signed Brooks on December 2nd of that year.
Then 49ers coach Mike Singletary stated Brooks would get an increased role in pass rushing situations. Brooks has continued the improvement and in 2011 he recorded career highs in both tackles (50) and sacks (7).
In the 2012 offseason, San Francisco signed Ahmad Brooks to a six-year, $44.5 million extension with $17.5 million guaranteed.
Jim Harbaugh stated: "they aren’t regretting their financial commitment after the seven-year veteran delivered 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and 50-yard interception return for a touchdown in 2012," via Eric Branch of sfgate.com.
"(Defensive coordinator) Vic Fangio made the comment the other day that the smartest thing we did as an organization was pay Ahmad Brooks and keep him as a 49er," Harbaugh said. "And we would all concur with that. He’s done it with very little fanfare, in terms of how he talks about himself."
