Ricky Jean Francois, please report to the trenches.
With nose guard Isaac Sopoaga (knee, ankle) sitting out his second straight practice today, it appears Jean Francois will make his third career start Sunday when the 49ers visit the Jets.
A seventh-round pick in 2009, Jean Francois, 25, made both his starts last week, filling for Sopoaga at nose guard in a win over Tampa Bay and subbing for Ray McDonald at tackle in a victory over the Redskins.
Jean Francois had 11 tackles in those games and the 49ers allowed an average of 69.9 rushing yards a game and 3.6 yards a carry.
Rickys definitely a good player, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said today. We have total confidence when hes in there. We alter nothing when hes in there.

49ers TE shows off massive gorilla tattoo
Delanie Walker has spent 6+ seasons with the 49ers playing a variety of positions: WR, TE & fullback. The guy is an NFL survivor. A 6th round pick out of Central Missouri, this guy should be out of the league by now. Walker shouldn’t have been able to hang around this long. Then again, when you’re a “Mother******* beast” (his words) you stick around in the NFL.
At...
Bryant Young among first year eligible players for Pro Football Hall of Fame
Former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Bryant Young is among several first year eligible players for the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame. Young played fourteen seasons for the 49ers from 1994 through 2007. Young was also part of the last 49ers team to win a super bowl in 1994. The former first round pick out of Notre Dame finished his career with 89.5 sacks. He was elected...
San Francisco 49ers: Week 4 NFL Power Rankings (#8)
Last week: 9 (+1)
Record: 2-1
The loss in Minnesota was not unpredictable. Minnesota is an underrated team and it was to be expected that the 49ers would be flat against a “bad” opponent after being anointed after 2 weeks. The loss has allowed them to fall back to earth, which is what they needed, and they should be able to get a bounce back win in New York against the Jets this...
Injury news: Jacobs, Ginn return … Sopoaga sits
It looks like the 49ers have both Brandon Jacobs and Ted Ginn available this weekend against the New York Jets. The bad news is it is being reported that Isaac Sopoaga will not play on Sunday.
It should not come as a surprise that Jacobs is back in time for the New York Jets, I’m sure he has had this game circled on his calendar all season. With Jacobs back he should be able to...
49ers ignore rain, work on offense in Ohio
It was not the sunniest of days for the San Francisco 49ers.
Still, coach Jim Harbaugh refused to let a daylong rain dampen plans to get the 49ers' offense untracked Wednesday.
Still smarting from a 24-13 loss at Minnesota on Sunday, Harbaugh directed a morning walkthough on the rain-slickened asphalt of a hotel parking lot. Then practice took place in rain at their home-away...
49ers TE Vernon Davis Added To Injury Report With Back Injury
Tight end Vernon Davis, who leads the 49ers with four touchdown catches, was a late addition to the team's injury report with a back injury. That injury did not keep Davis from practicing Friday -- he was a full participant -- and he is listed as probable on the team's injury report.
Three 49ers are listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets: running...
Harbaugh back after heart procedure
San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is back at work a day after undergoing a minor procedure for an irregular heartbeat.
The reigning NFL Coach of the Year returned to the field to lead San Francisco through Friday's walk-through session, with a full practice scheduled for the afternoon.
Harbaugh, who turns 49 on Dec. 23, was away from the team Thursday for his procedure...

49ERS vs. JETS (Sun Sept 30 1 PM ET)
The 49ers are coming off a loss to the Vikings and now they face a Jets team that is 2-1, but lost defensive leader CB Darrellle Revis in their last game. The Jets did win their last game, but it went to OT and was against the weak Dolphins.
Frank Gore and the rushing offense of San Fran struggled against the Vikes, but this Sunday they face...
Patrick Willis praciticed on Wednesday
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis participated in Wednesday’s practice after suffering a leg injury during last Sunday’s loss to the Vikings.
It looks like Willis will be good to go for Sunday’s game against the Jets.
Fantasy Football Week 4 Preview: 49ers at Jets
San Francisco 49ers @ New York JetsSan Francisco: So I’m thinking a lot of survivor pools blew up in Week 3 when the 49ers rolled into the Metrodome and laid an egg in front of the Vikings. If there was one game that seemed a sure thing, it was this one. Just goes to show you that in the NFL, any given Sunday can go sideways.Alex Smith and the 49ers will try to rebound on the road...
Rain doesn't dampen 49ers' urgency and desire
Coach Jim Harbaugh wants the San Francisco 49ers to get focused, avoid obstacles and get back to winning.
San Francisco 49ers at New York Jets NFL Week 4 Preview: Revis Island On Vacation
http://www.businessinsider.com/darrelle-revis-out-2012-9
The San Francisco 49ers defense was looking like the best in the NFL by leaps-and-bounds, but they looked human against the Minnesota Vikings of all teams.
It was remarkable since Jim Harbaugh always struggled in the Metrodome, and history clearly repeated itself as they were stunned on the road 24-13.
Alex Smith looked like...
San Francisco 49ers at New York Jets: Week 4 NFL Pick
San Francisco 49ers (2-1) at New York Jets (2-1)
Remember how the Jets’ chance to make the playoffs was on the conservative offense, good defense, don’t make mistakes, easy schedule model? Yeah, that doesn’t work if you can’t play good defense and without Darrelle Revis, they’re going to have a hard time doing so many of the things they normally do on defense. They also...
San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Jets: Three Bold Predictions
Before Monday night's "Inaccurate Reception" debacle, the biggest story of Week 3 was San Francisco’s shocking loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The 49ers were shut down on offense, and Christian Ponder and company had their way with what is supposed to be one of the best defenses in the NFL.The Jets are coming off a 3-point victory, in overtime, over division rival Miami...
PREVIEW: 49ers (2-1) @ NY JETS (2-1)
Do you think Rex Ryan gets a little green with envy when preparing for Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers?Since his introduction as Jets head coach prior to the 2010 season, Ryan has envisioned his team in a certain way: defensively labeled as a hard-nosed, smash-mouth unit that creates turnovers and beats up the quarterback -- and if they put a few players on their ass, no one...
