Found November 30, 2012 on Pro Football Zone:
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the San Francisco 49ers asked three veteran players to restructure their contracts so they could get linebacker NaVorro Bowman’s extension done. Tight end Vernon Davis, cornerback Carlos Rogers and defensive lineman Ray McDonald restructured their contracts to provide the 49ers with the necessary cap room to award Bowman with a $7.5 million signing bonus, a league source told CSNBayArea.com on Friday. Bowman, whose original four-year deal averaged $623,062 annually through 2013, signed a five-year extension this week through 2018 that averages $8.911 million annually. Because of his signing bonus, Bowman’s 2012 cap figure immediately rose from $717,887 to $2.217 million, the source said. In order to fit Bowman’s new deal under their salary cap, the 49ers turned to three veterans to clear nearly $2.5 million in cap space. When players restructure their contracts it’s always a win-win deal for both the player and the organization.  The team usually restructures the contract so the player will get their bonus money now instead of down the road.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

Columnist criticizes Kaepernick for tats

After likening an NFL QB to a CEO, a columnist took 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick to task for his tattoos, writing, "you don’t want your CEO to look like he just got paroled.”

Alex Smith can’t hold it back: "I mean, it sucks"

We think Alex Smith said it perfectly. When you lose your job, doing your job doesn’t inspire hope. There are no words of comfort. Smith completed 7 of 8 passes in his last game and maybe if he only didn’t miss that one.

Colin Kaepernick’s parents defend him against criticism over tattoos

Colin Kaepernick has officially been given the chance to become the next face of the San Francisco 49ers, and so far he has answered the call. There has been little to criticize Kaepernick for in his first two NFL starts, both of which were convincing wins. While it would be difficult to criticize him for his play, one writer felt the need to bash him for something totally unrelated...

Alex Smith on being replaced as starting quarterback ‘It sucks’

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith spoke to the media on Thursday for the first time since coach Jim Harbaugh named Colin Kaepernick the team’s starting quarterback, and reports say he was full of disappointment. “I mean, it sucks,” Smith said, via CSN Bay Area. “I don’t know what else to say.” Smith was knocked out of San Francisco’s Week 10 game against the...

49ers' Dobbs arrested, won't travel

The California Highway Patrol says it arrested San Francisco 49ers defensive end Demarcus Dobbs early Friday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. CHP Officer D.J. Sarabia says Dobbs was involved in a single-car accident in which he hit a chain-link fence and a bush but didn't sustain any injuries. Dobbs was arrested at 3:45 a.m. The...

Goldson, Whitner patrolling the middle for 49ers

There's a price to pay for those who venture across the middle of the San Francisco 49ers' defense. Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner are making sure of that. The territory patrolled by the pair of hard-hitting safeties has become a danger zone this season for San Francisco opponents, several of whom have had to be helped off the field after getting leveled by one of the...

Dobbs arrested on 25th birthday, out for Rams

Second-year 49ers veteran Demarcus Dobbs was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana, the California Highway Patrol said, and he did not travel to St. Louis with the team later in the day and won’t play in Sunday’s game against the Rams.

Nobody is safe in Goldson/Whitner danger zone

There's a price to pay for those who venture across the middle of the San Francisco 49ers' defense. Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner are making sure of that, roaming the center of the field with impunity and delivering the kind of pain that’s leaving fear in their wake throughout the NFL.

Alex Smith comments on benching “It sucks”

A quarterback switch is common place when a team is struggling but the San Francisco 49ers appeared to be one of the best teams in the NFL. When Alex Smith was concussed in a game against the St. Louis Rams in Week 10 he found out how quickly one can be replaced in the NFL. “I mean, it sucks. I don’t know what else to say,” Smith said Thursday, per Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet...

On RG3 and Kaepernick: It’s 2012 And We’re Talking About TATTOOS AND BRAIDS

Only way a person believes that tattoos suddenly make this sweet faced individual look like a thug is if they’re one chromosome from having one chromosome. So, let me guess…people learned zero, zip, nada, nothing from Allen Iverson?  Let me refresh your memory. Allen Iverson was lambasted for years for having visible tattoos and cornrows. Fastforward barely a decade after...
