Jim Harbaugh said Monday that tight end Delanie Walker’s broken jaw will be reevaluated on Wednesday, giving the 49ers a better indication of whether Walker will be able to rejoin the team for its playoff run. Walker’s jaw was broken on Dec. 19 after he took a knee to the side of the helmet. He had surgery soon after and now has his jaw wired shut. Wednesday’s exam will determine how well and how quickly the break is healing and will signal to the 49ers whether they can keep him on the active roster or place him on injured reserve. Although Walker’s receiving totals diminished as the season progressed, he is a very good pass catcher and is elusive with the ball in his hands.

Coach Harbaugh Born on the Frozen Tundra

Jim Harbaugh’s obvious acute understanding of football is probably the very same reason the 49ers can’t score in the red zone. These red zone problems the San Francisco 49ers are facing are sometimes the unfortunate symptoms of being born with a beating-football in your chest —in lieu of a heart. Even if it helps pump football-passion throughout the veins, it also re-surfaces...

Harbaugh welcomes extra prep time

As the New Orleans Saints prepare for their playoff opener in five days, the 49ers are looking at 12 days before their first game (possibly against the Saints). Advantage, San Francisco. Even coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged this in his regular news conference today, as the 49ers begin to...

49ers hold off Rams, complete huge turnaround

There were no apologies coming from Jim Harbaugh on Sunday. Not even close. After the 49ers had to make some defensive stops late in the game to hold off the suddenly spunky St. Louis Rams 34-27 in their regular-season finale, their first-year coach was clear he definitely didn’t have mixed emotions. And why would he after leading the 49ers to one of the greatest turnaround seasons...

49ers' defense prepares offense for red zone

As it turns out, the solution to the 49ers ' vexing red-zone problems was located on their practice field all season. Entering the playoffs, it appears the Niners can cross those red-zone issues off their fix-it list, and coach Jim Harbaugh said some of the credit can go to San Francisco's...

Jim Harbaugh Says 49ers Plan To Bring Back QB Alex Smith For 2012

Coach Jim Harbaugh has told 49ers quarterback Alex Smith the team plans to re-sign him beyond this season. Smith, the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick out of Utah, received a $4.9 million, one-year contract as a free agent last July after the lockout -- when many, including Smith himself, figured he'd be headed elsewhere following six up-and-down seasons. He has thrived under Harbaugh...
