In the days after his two-fumble nightmare in last year’s NFC championship game, Kyle Williams read the comments from the Giants about how they had him targeted because of his history of concussions. One month later, when the Saints’ BountyGate story broke, Williams expected the Giants would be in trouble, too. Instead, Williams said he was “shocked” when absolutely nothing happened to the Super Bowl champions, even though Giants linebacker Jacquian Williams was quoted saying “our biggest thing was to take (Kyle Williams) out of the game” and receiver Devin Thomas added “He’s had a lot of concussions (so) we were just like ‘We’ve got to put a hit on that guy.’” “When the bounty stuff came out and (former Saints defensive coordinator) Gregg Williams had said the same things, basically, they went for his neck with that and they took that to the absolute highest level they could,” Williams said on Wednesday at the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl hotel. “But it was almost like when the Giants said it, it was not a big deal. “That’s the only thing that kind of shocked me. I thought that would have the same reaction because it was the same exact thing.” The Giants disagreed, and dismissed their own comments as no big deal in the days after their 20-17 overtime win that sent them on to Super Bowl XLVI. They also insisted they never hit Williams in the head during that game, though the 49ers’ return man remembers it differently. “No, they got me,” he said. “They definitely got me.” One year later, Williams – now on injured reserve, watching his 49ers prepare for Super Bowl XLVII – insisted he’s not upset with the Giants, mostly because “Guys try to put guys out of the game every single game.” He doesn’t believe the shots he took to his head led to his two fumbled punt returns, including the one in overtime that led to Lawrence Tynes’ game-winning field goal, he’s also not sure the Giants were even actually targeting his head during that game. “I don’t know if they were,” Williams said. “They could have been. But I’m not going to sit and say that they did that.” Source: NYDaily News
