With free agency just over a week away, Eagles fans have been salivating at the idea of signing some of the top available talent. The Birds need help along the offensive line and at wide receiver so rumors have been running rampant over which free agents the team is targeting. Unfortunately for the Eagles, three players believed to be on the radar have now been taken off. The Carolina Panthers had a pair of free agents, tackle Jordan Gross and defensive end Julius Peppers, and it didn't l...

Gross being off the market really limits what the Eagles will be able to do in free agency. I guess the draft is now crucial!
  • Yeah but we can also trade through free agency and the Draft thats what we did with T.O. Kearse Jon Runyan even though we only have done it Sparsely but its given and shown good fruit.... so it dont matter pick up someone young and fresh, It more than likely we wont get a WR we are fine with What we Got in a way if not lets get TJ that would be the only hope, and get either Kellen Winslow or Pettigrew and a RB and O-line Safety DT we are SET
  • ItsWhatever
We really didn't need any of these players. T.J is the way to go.

I guess if we need another #2 whose 32 years old and going to be highly overpaid while being at the end of his career. He will not live up to what the majority of the fan base expects when the hear the name, he's not a #1, never has been, and won't start being one at 32 years old in Philly and once Philly fans realize hes not "TO" they will complain. Better draft a WR and pray he turns out like Desean. Like Hakeem Nicks he looks better than Anquan did coming out of college and look what Quan did his rookie year...Very similiar size and skill set.

        well said jared

WE have too many needs to spend a high pick on a wideout, When we can sure up the position by adding Housh. Nobody wants him to be a superstar, they want him to do what he did in Cincy, which is be a possession receiver, who can occasionally burn you. Thats what he'll be here. Although, you could have called him a superstar, after watching him in cincy...
      • ItsWhatever
Also a rookie wouldn't start week 1 as the #1, which is what we want. So Desean lines up at #2, and Curtis/Avant in the slot. unless it is crabtree, but were not getting him.
  • Dawks08
I am not surprised...but Boldin's status is up in the air until he is signed
  • HakeemNicks
Yeah I know Dawks08, but it just seems like something will be done and to get Boldin will be a lot. Probably a first round and 3rd round pick anf like a 5 year contract with a value around $40mm - $50mm man cos you know a lot of teams will be bidding for his services.

hahaha i love the title...BAD NEWS FOR THE EAGLES...yeah just the eagles? not the cowboys who probably would kill to have the combo of ware and peppers when peppers said he'd like to play in their 3-4 - - i think thats GREAT news for us....we werent gonna get julius peppers and if the cowboys did...WOW....and jordan gross is so young and talented why would they just let him slip away after a great season? thats like us just lettin go shawn andrews...and boldin woulda been great but the giants were in the running for him too so who knows what woulda happened? houshmandzadeh isnt gonna cost draft picks i think he would be a better pick up from a "not trading away our picks" standpoint
    • DeWare
Not really...for what it would cost for Peppers, I'd rather take my chances with another year of Greg Ellis (12.5 sacks in '07 but better years obviously behind) and Anthony Spencer (OLB in waiting and starter on 1st, 2nd down) splitting time. Especially when the Boys have to open up the wallet for a Ware extension. The Boys don't have too much wiggle room under the cap and have to re-sign some lower level contributors. (Chris Canty and/or Stephen Bowen, Keith Davis, Miles Austin, Kevin Burnett, and address backup QB) Peppers and Ray Lewis are merely fantasy world pickups. You're right though...lining up Ware and Peppers on opposite sides of a 3-4 would be ridiculous! Just not gonna happen.

i mentioned on another post how I thought dallas didn't need peppers, but with both him and suggs being franchised, when that uncapped yr of 2010 comes, then u might see one of them across from ware, and yes that would be WOW.
  • I will tell you what, hearing all this really bummed me out.......... but then I was reading something about Indy releasing Marvin Harrison. Now sports fans, do you know who made Donovan McNabb look good in college?
Thats right.............. his old college WR............. Marvin Harrison. You want to talk about the stars lining up.
    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • htkrocks
You said it right.....his OLD college WR....Harrison will be 37 when next season starts. He's one of my favorites(Went to middle school with him), but he's not the answer to what the Eagles need.

For me, I think the Gross signing really limited what the Eagles could do to get Boldin. if that makes sense to anyone. I say go after T.J Housh, because we have the money, Then Move up in the draft to get a top O LT
and if its possible, trade for Gonzo/Winslow or pray for Pettigrew (however u spell his name) to drop. Thats what I would do.
  • sammyb40
Ya hopefully we get Houz... Looking forward to football already
  • rtnardi
    Well that sucks!!
After yesterday's events I still believe the Eagles are working behind the scenes and in a covert manner. We all wanted to see Boldin in Eagle green come September but remember Housh is still available. Also the Eagles could address the WR situation with what they have by incorporating thier current core in the offense more. The question I have and am confused about is Hank Baskett. He is 6'4 240 I believe he can be a good option for a #1 or #2 receiver and is a good compliment to Jackson. Move Curtis to the slot work with Jason Avant to be a viable #4 and keep Brown as a low income insurance policy. Of course this all incase the Eagles don't sign Housh or fail to even attempt to sign him. Also here is my prediction for next Friday by noon on 27 Feb the Eagles will have signed both DT Albert Haynesworth and RT Vernon Carey.
  • I think the resigning of Jordan Gross is a major shot to the Eagles because they could have certainly used a young, talented tackle. With that said, a franchise tag on Peppers and Anquan Boldin's change of heart are blessings in disguise. The Giants were front runners for Boldin and the Cowboys were front runners for Julius Peppers. THey get resigned and the Eagles don't have to worry about the other two teams improving. I don't think the Eagles are going to make the free agency moves that they've made in the past. Look at it from this prospective: In the past (the losing years) the Eagles made moves for big name free agents and more often than not they didn't work out. Fast Forward to 2004 and you have T.O. High priced veterans and free agents don't always work out for teams. If the Eagles make moves, they should do it in the draft and get younger. I think Hakeem Nicks would be an outstanding fit for the Eagles. He can be groomed to be what the Eagles want him to be, rather than a veteran who is what he is.
  • trotter830
i'm telling you, if we can just get kellen and housh in FA and then beenie and ebben britton in the draft, we're golden
    • jl91701
Winslow jr. is under contract, he is not a free agent. As for your draft plans sounds good, but I dont think either will be there at #28.

wasting a first round pick on a RB is idiotic
      • ItsWhatever
Unless it's Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, etc etc.
  • Tblitz25
Vernon Carey was the Dolphins 19th overall selection in the 2004 draft. He has started at RT almost every single game since 2005. He has started every game since 2006. He is 6-5 350 and 27 year of age. He has been the Dolphins most consitent and productive offensive lineman for the past couple of years. The Dolphins didn't tag him so he may hit the market if they dont reach a deal. Reports are showing the Eagles are looking to re-sign Tra Thomas. Bringing in Carey would provide stability at our tackle positions assuming we can re-sign Thomas. Another FA i'm sure we try to bring in is T.J. Houshmanzadeh. I don't need to explain why this would be a good idea. This would allow the Eagles to focus on drafting perhaps a RB and TE (Wells, Pettigrew)? and allow the Eagles to draft a OL in later rounds. I dont like the idea of trading up in the first rd and thats almost certainly what we will need to do in order to draft one of the better OL in this years draft. We might be able to get a hold of OK Duke Robinson in the 2nd rd setting the Stage for Eagles to move Herrimans out to LT This year or next. This maybe the Eagles Strategy given the fact that it doesnt seem like they are all that reassured that 35 YO Runyan will come back from microfracture and be at his old form at the start of the season or ever to re-sign him. Tell me if this makes any sense or if it's feasabile.
  • LOOK THESE ARE JUST MY THOUGHTS SO NOBODY TAKE IT TO PERSONAL... I CANT SEE WHY EVERYBODY IS SO HIGH ON BOLDIN IN MY WHAT HAS HE REALLY DONE... TJ EITHER THEY HAVE SHINED I WILL GIVE U THAT BUT THEY ALSO HAVE HAD # 1 GUYS 2 GO ALONG WITH THEM WE FORGET THE TJ HAS CHAD AND BOLDIN HAS LARRY... TAKE THOSE 2 GUYS AWAY AND WE DONT NO HOW GOOD THEY REALLY ARE. GROSS YEA IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO GET HIM BUT WHAT CAN U DO BOUT IT NOW.... FORGET ABOUT TRADES FOR A #1 WR CAUSE THERE ARE OTHER TEAMS IN NEED FOR 1 THAT WILL GIVE UP MUCH MORE THAN WE WILL SO GET READY FOR ANOTHER SEASON WITH THE GUYS WE HAVE.. NOT SAYING WE WONT GET TJ BUT DONT BE SUPRISED IF HE A BUST.. THERE IS NO CHAD JOHNSON HERE NO ONE CLOSE NONE OF OUR WRS GOT DOUBLED LAST YEAR SO THEY WILL JUS DOUBLE HIM ..
    • Tblitz25
Aquiring TJ would make things easier for DeSean and Kevin plus if they want to double Housh that means there is going to be a favorable matchup for Westbrook out of the backfield. It would be a mistake to double Housh
    • ok eaglesfan hope you're listening i think i proved a valid point last time i said this so i will say it again. bringing in tj or anquan, whatever, these two are used to seeing single coverage and they are still freakin productive right????? that's what we need. take it a step further, if they double our new #1, then they cant double jackson too, they cant put all these eyes on westbrook, it would be harder to blitz mcnabb, curtis becomes that threat we all know that he would be in the slot against lb's, 3rd string corners, or safeties. and avant is sure handed. what a 4 receiver set you are looking at!!! if you don;t double tj once again you know what he can do in single coverage. couple that with celek who i like alot or a trade for gonzo either would be fine. we traded for booker last year i doubt this guys riding the pine, he's gotta be in the plans somewhere, and it has been hinted that they will probably go after derrick ward in fa. with the OL being slim pickings in fa only name off the top would be stacy andrews, but you get that in the draft we got solid work out of MJG and Cole at the guard spot last year and most of us believe andrews can transition to tackle with little to no problems. we arent' that far away but ya eaglesfan on the wr part combat that in any way possible, cause the way i see it they would have to pick their poison with any new "unproven" wr.
      • OK I WAS LISTENING NOW ITS UR TURN IF THEY DOUBLE A #1 WHATS THE DIFFERENCE FROM LAST YEAR NONE OF OUR GUYS WERE DOUBLED AND BLITZING MCNABB COME ON THIS IS THE FIRST TIME EVERYONE IS SAYIN WE NEED HELP ON THE LINE CAUSE OUR GUYS ARE FAS... IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL THESE TWO GUYS AINT # 1 WRS
        • well like i said ok noone was doubled, now there is. one less guy watching westbrook, harder to have a guy over the top for the deep ball to speedy desean, curtis in the slot(did you see him in st.louis?) it gives a d more to focus on, more to worry about, tj gives you sure hands in the endzone. tj is a fa and we are 30-40 mil under the cap how can you not do that and take care of your o-line? we don't have to give up picks for him just straight up cash money which they have plenty of. our wideouts did pretty well against number one and two corners what do think happens when the talent they face is down a notch now where looking at 2nd best and 3rd best or worse lb's and or safeties, safeties are good but they aren't number one or two corners (exception reed and likely polumalu but that's it)

I'm sick and tired of coming on here seeing all this crap about Eagles might get this guy, might get that guy. Rename the site EaglesBarker, cause that's all its been lately. A word to the wise, don't get your hopes up! free agency is just a bunch of rumors and hoping. How often to free agents ever live up to their deal? almost never. It's sad that I saw one of you say "oh guess the draft becomes important now!" where have you been? THE DRAFT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF BUILDING A TEAM. get out of fantasy world. and if you get Boldin, the draft will be the reason why, you will trade a draft pick for him. and Peppers wasn't coming to Philly anyway. it goes completely against the Eagles philosophy for defensive linemen. Their D End's are always like 6'3'' 270 lbs and they rotate. theyre happy having decent to good players in a rotation.
    • JASON323_310
They got all happy about getting Nnamdi Asomugha.. I was laughing my A55 off when he came back!!
These Eagles fans on YB are crazy!! haha

News flash Jason we dont need another all star CB. We do have brown, sheppard, and samuel buddy. You brag about Asomugha Jason and thats the only star player you guys have who cares we have all stars at every position
        • JASON323_310
B.R.A.V.O. for having all stars at every position.. My Raiders got the chemistry though, that's what counts. And quit lying to yourself.. yall wanted Nnamdi!!

          Placard_complete_small
No not at all dude. You are very wrong... brag when your team actually gets above 500 hahah
    • jl91701
Well said, It's funny how non-Eagles fans know more about the team than Eagles fans.
  • JASON323_310
    LMAO!!
The only Wide Receiver I see yall getting is... (DRUMROLL PLEASE..) MARVIN HARRISON. LMAO!!
    1. Nnamdi Asomugha - didn't happen (DTRIK got OWNED!!)
    2. Boldin - won't happen
    3. T.J. Housh - NEW YORK GIANTS
    4. Kellen Winslow - might happen
    • umm yeah just b/c someone posts a blog saying hey i'd like to see us get Nnamdi don't mean nothing. I'll give him credit he's got game, what team would not want him. I highly doubt anyone really got there hopes up, sure most thought it would be nice, but was still thought of as unlikely. Now all you need is a qb, rb, te, wr's ol dl s and lb's. Don't worry my raider insiders (hahaha- espn) tell me that the raiders likely will bring back jerry porter!!! good luck with that. you all might know what it's like to be a lion fan by the end of next year!! hahaha
      • JASON323_310
        BOOOOOOO!!!
        GO RAIDERS!!
        • ya go raiders , red raiders that is haha go porter dont disappoint davis again or you're gonna literally go into the black hole as far as your future goes. i hope russell can pass for more than 80 yards a game this year. be happy you signed lechler he's gonna he's gonna get his moneys worth this year haha that is if they can make it three downs without turning it over!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, they can always sign Pacman as a return man.

boldin is willing to stay if the cards pay him what he deserves, which in my opinion is highly unlikely, now arizonia will be $41 mil. under the cap next season
  • ibleedgreen81
    Placard_complete_small
but that doesnt count bonuses and tender offer's to free agents, arizonas first order of buisness will be to re-sign guys at the end of their deals, warner will be first then dansby etc.. antonio smith is also due to become an unrestricted free agent and not to mention adrian wilson and darnell dockett are probably gonna want extensions as well, in the midst of all this their gonna need to set aside cap space to sign other free agents, so you see my fellow eagle fans the cardinals are not going to be able to give boldin FITZ money, and i can pretty much bet the farm if they offer him 1 cent less than fitz which they will do, boldin will be back to square 1
  • Zukny1
was just reading NFL headlines.. Looks like Khalif Barnes is the Best left on the market..

What does everone think of him?
    • DTRIK19
      Placard_complete_small
Mediocre at best, but could fill in until a draft pick is ready.
  • Dawks08
We're talking about resigning Tra and Dawks, so look for a RT or shut up...Shady is looking amazing in Green in my dreams D, lets hope its a reality, FB Marcus Mailei, Tony Fiametta, and Quinn Johnson are the 3 that should be in our mind in terms of draft
  • DTRIK19
    Placard_complete_small
If you want a college FB...then one of our 5th or 6th round picks would be where we'd grab one. Or just wait til after the draft and pick one up...theres always plenty left (Conredge Collins.)
  • Dawks08
yea, my ideal draft without trades is
    21st: Britton or Oher
    28th: McCoy
2nd round: Shonn Greene (or Phil Loadholt)
    3rd: Shawn Nelson
4th: Ramses Barden (or Herman Johnson)
    5th: Tony Fiametta (whatever)
    too lazy to finish
    6th
