MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Boca Raton, FLA - 07.31.08 - Bowie Baysox catcher Matt Wieters was named as the top developmental player in the MLN Ones2Watch (O2W) Baseball 2008, the companion rankings to the MLN FAB50 Baseball 2008 in the current edition of MLN Sports Zone (SZ).
Wieters, the Orioles no. 1 pick in 2007, has made fast work of the baby bird farm, currently holding down the plate in Bowie.
The O2W showcases players rising up from the lower tiers of Minor League Baseball (MiLB) who have an estimated developmental curve in excess of 18 months. Players on a faster track to the majors are showcased in the MLN FAB50.
"We created the O2W to give fans from Rookie ball to Double-A a way of discovering some of the showcase talent moving through their parks in that level of the farm system," said SZ senior editor Brian Ross. "As we discovered, it has been a great resource for other fans all the way up to the majors, and for our FAB50 editorial team that puts together the crown jewel of baseball rankings."
RHP Trevor Cahill (Atlhetics/Rockhounds), OF Julio Borbon (Rangers/RoughRiders), LHP Madison Bumgarner (Giants/Greenjackets) and J.P. Arencibia (Blue Jays/Fisher Cats) rounded out the top five picks.
