Eagles Eyeing 2 RBs Jones VS Alexander

The Eagles appear to have 2 running backs on their radar. Two playmakers who could add depth to Philadelphias runningback core, Former MVP and West Coast offense veteran Seattle RB Shaun Alexander (who is due to be released) and Childhood Eagles fan Detroit RB Kevin Jones. Both come in with injury issues but, niether would be expected to carry the load. Alexander comes in from Mike Holmgrens West Coast Offense which is a mirror image of Andy Reids current offense. Alexander also brings an impressive resume which includes a MVP trophy. Kevin Jones comes in with a 1,000 yard season under his belt under the age of 25. Jones said he was a life long Eagles fan since he was a child and stated "it would be a dream to come home to play in Philadelphia". You can't put a price on pride and youth and clearly Jones could bring both to the Eagles. Alexander may be the pricier option but has tremendous upside and would be an immediate redzone threat. While Jones would come cheaper and has youth and potential and some solid experience on his resume. No matter which of these players the Eagles could choose fans and players alike hope the Eagles will pull the trigger on one of these 2 playmakers.

The Eagles could bring back the "Rocketback" formation in the redzone. The "Rocketback" formation which was once utilized both Ricky Watters and Charlie Garner at the same time, could feature Westbrook along with either Jones or Alexander making it difficult to key in on one player inside the 20.

alexander is washed up and jones is a walking injury... hmmmm so many choices!!!!!

Buckhalters a walking injury and Hunt will never be washed up because that would mean you were good at one point in your career...and he never will be. Its worth the risk

Bucks been healthy for two straight years now. Hunt is coming into his 2nd season. Alot of rookies suck. Give him some time.

you can take all the time you want...Hunt will never be any good. Just another Penn State bum.

THUNDER AND LIGHTNING!!!!

Who's the thunder?

Westbrook is the Lightning, and Andy Walking on the Sidelines is the Thunder

why does everyone always look at negative things to say. there both great players but i dont know if there useful in philly.

The eagles are not even remotely interested in Alexander. They havent expressed interest in Jones either, even tho he said he wanted to become an eagle

DIG IT kribe22.......jones has ONLY said......the eagles have NOT responded

yeah i really want to address our wide receiver situation before we get another rb but out of the 2 its hard to say if alexander can pass a physical i think hed have a big immediate impact and stay healthy being the #2 now jones would be more of a long term thing but i honestly dont know how good he would be this year d-mac had his acl earlier in the season than jones and wasnt able to run or even scramble for that matter until the last 3 games now if we use that as a way to gage how long it will take jones to be effective im thinking opening day 09 if they are going to take one and the price is right its gotta be alexander

this is y the eagles piss me off buckhalter is a good back up to Bwest, hes not great and does get injured a lot but so do alexander and jones, we should not be focused on the RB situation focus on the wide reciever problem first i think westbrook proved he can handle being the #1 and curtis and brown r in severe need for someone to take the pressure off of them

couldnt agree more about buck. plus he has played two full seasons without injury. they keep holding buck back, not enough carries. when westbrooks out for a game you can count on buck getting around 100 yards. now that is a solid backup.

Buck is good but the Eagles need a power back which is why they drafted Hunt. Hunt may need time so practice squad him cut Moats and bring in one of these guys who can run between the tackles. Buck isnt a power runner, and its only a matter of time before his knee goes out again.

You can't put guys on the practice squad if you want them later. It's not a stable to allow bonus roster spots. If you get assigned to the practice squad any other team can sign you away.

UHHH.. NO WE HAVE HUNT SCREW BOTH THEM...JONES GETS HURT TOO MUCH AND ALEXANDER IS OLD..WE GOTTA GIVE HUNT A SHOT.

HUNT...NOOOO STOP IT....kevin jones is going to be healthy this year hes coming off injuries but atleast he'll be ready for training camp in late july-early august...alexander is a bum....reasons kevin jones is a great pickup
-Eagles love to add "value" to their roster and a guy who can upgrade the 2nd runningback spot and openly stated he would love to come to philly is definetly what they are looking for
-Another reason is it would take pressure off getting a number 1 receiver...we could fall back and think for a while and as much as we all want a number 1, we are going to have to wait
-With Jones in the backfield you can use westbrook as your "number 1" and if we got a number 1 it would give our offense an unstoppable look

what to us bird fan butt we still need a number 1 rec

shaun alexander is the most over-rated hack in sports, it wasn't the madden curse that has caused his fallout, hes simply GARBAGE. immobile and with mediocere speed at best, he wouldnt be putting up numbers close to half of what hes done in his career if it wasnt for a stellar o-line (via jon ogden). the hawks are hack and as is an aged over-appreciated alex

jonathen ogden is on the ravens...

He is probally thinking of hutchinson...........ever since he left for the vikings alexander has sucked.....the majority of his runs during he MVP season were to hutchinson's side............funny he goes to the vikings om 2006 and suddenly Freaking CHESTER TAYLOR has a 1200 yard rushing season. They should give Steve Hutchinson Alexander's MVP Award.

if u asked me 2 or 3yrz ago who'd i rather have i'd easily say shaun alexander but idk he just doesnt seem like he has a umpH to em ya dig? kevin jones is younger and i think would be a better compliment to B-west

either one of these guys will have to carry the load. Either one can make plays.

*NEITHER* one

maybe they could move Westbrook to WR and use all these RBs for inside the 5 yd line.

HA!HA!Line them all up at the same time. You know, for confusion.

Oh my god your serious aren't you.Wow.

how about we stop talking because there is no conversation to be made about another running back. that is like saying the chargers are gonna sign larry johnson to share carries with lt. but mind you, i hear all you guys talking about so and so is a walking injury... who gives a shit, that was in the past, it was probably a freak accident and people think its gonna happen every year. i broke my finger playing football 3 years ago and it hasnt happened since, as a matter of fact ive had absolutely no injurys and i also play bball.

Good news Eagleman! Why don't you try walking on to the Eagles.A single trip to the IR is not disconcerting.A debilitating reoccurring injury creates legitimate concern about a player's potential. We're not talking about a broken finger. We're talking knee injuries on RUNNINGBACKS.Jones has two serious, different injuries in two years and does not possess your supernatural healing ability.

We should not address a running back until we get a #1 WR. A big time play maker at WR will open our entire offence up. Not another running back. On the other a RB like Jones will help keep Westbrook fresh and Healthy. The Redzone problems were because we do not have a Physical athletic WR. You can man up on our smaller Wr and put everyone in the Box. Are bet Redzone Wr last year was Baskeit.

I'd be happy if the Birds snatched up either of these guys. I'd think either would be instant red zone help. Of course I'd still like to see a #1 receiver in there, but grabbing one of these weapons would definitely help.

There is nothing "instant" about Jones.Noone knows when he would be ready to actually get in a game.

ya and how about we sign will james back and put him at starting corner... instant success.

Keven Jones can still be very productive.. forget Alexander though, he couldn't even hack it in the West last year

i say jones and cause i said it it should be taken as gospel period end off dicussion

but seriously buck is a good guy andf i like hime but its like in the drafty sometimes u pick value over need so for that reason pick up jones what will it hurt oh and need i point out the giants even though we dont like them had 4 extremly talented RB i mean the lost guy on that totem poll was Droughns and he was pretty darn good in clevland so it couldnt hurt to pick up jones but screqw alexander that dudes done

Right now, get mad at me if you want to, but Lorrenzo Neal would be perfect. All the great teams have used their fullbacks, in fact Jim Brown was technically a Fullback too. When you think about it all great RBs had great FBs to back them up, Peterson and Richardson, LT and Neal. Neal solves our 3rd down problems and is also a great redzone threat. PHilly knows how to use their FBs a la Jason Ritchie. (forgot his name if its wrong my bad)

No one's mad at ya Prince.I also wish the FB was incorporated into our offense again. You are correct.John Ritchie was a nice FB and played quite often.Neal might've been awesome but he's a little long in the tooth.Maybe Dan Klecko ( GO TU!) can do the job. He's not a spectacular name and quite possibly wont make the roster but as much as we use FB's now he could be O.K. With ya on the FB in the redzone, though.

The Birds just signed Klecko as a FB.

The Birds just signed Klecko as a FB.

Alexander-no way. Kevin Jones...........mmmmmmmmmmm. Wouldn't he just be another Buck?I'm only interested in better, not the same.

Alexander will be good......Seattle's LINE sucks

That might be true about Seattle's O-Line but when was the last time ours had to block for a RB like Alexander?Possibly incorporating the Prince's idea (from above) could make this a nice situation.Really I don't think we should take either right now.

I'd rather Jones, but honestly, Buck had a solid season when he got carries. He's been injury free two straight years now, looks strong, and is a good locker-room presence. But, Jones is still very young....

Buckhalter's in a contract year.Taking Jones now pretty much assures Buck's departure because Jones wont be 100% a la McNabb. You wont know what your getting from him until late in the season or even next year.Point is, Jones is a long term commitment. He has some positives but his inability to stay on the field was as frustrating for the Lions as Buckhalter's was for us.Huge upside, lot of risk, and no roster room for Jones.

Westbrook is GOD, Buck has been a solid #2 for the past two years, lets see what hunt can do, we really didnt give him any touches last year. Jones is a decent back but we really dont need him and alexander is past his prime and he will want more $$. Nah we dont need either one of them

both of these guys are num. ones when healthy and wanna be num. 1 rbs.. not take a seat next to west...its not gona happen idont care what anyone thinks..they wouldnt of drafted hunt if he wasnt our future num. 2..sorry people!

Look hear im all for getting a #1 wr and would love if we got chad but if no one noticed, the eagles had no problem getting up and down the feild last year with the WR's we have, our problem is the redzone, we can start from our own 5 and get to the opponents redzone with no problem even with mediocre WR's, therefor i think we need to snatch up either one of these RB's, injury prone or not all we need them for is redzone, maybe 10 to 15 snaos a game thats about it, either should be able to handle that
