Ravens eyeing wideouts

Though the Baltimore Ravens have struggled to find a top-notch quarterback since relocating from Cleveland 12 years ago, the Ravens also have had precious few talented wideouts.

Four years ago, that almost changed with the attempted acquisition of Terrell Owens. They've also had a couple of cracks at Randy Moss over the years, but have never made a serious run at him.

Instead, they've relied on the draft, which has yielded largely forgettable names like Jermaine Lewis (fifth round, 1996), Pat Johnson (second round, 1998), Brandon Stokley (fourth round, 1999), Travis Taylor (first round, 2000), Ron Johnson (fourth round, 2002), Lamont Brightful (sixth round, 2002), Javin Hunter (sixth round, 2002), Devard Darlin (third round, 2004), Mark Clayton (first round, 2005), Demetrius Williams (fourth round, 2006), and Yamon Figurs (third round, 2007).

Currently, the roster consists of Figurs, Williams, Clayton, Matt Willis, and Derrick Mason.

And so the Ravens are apparently looking for an upgrade in the 2007 draft. Per Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times, the Ravens will meet privately with receiver James Hardy of Indiana and Oklahoma receiver Malcolm Kelly. Also, the Ravens reportedly spent time with receiver Devin Thomas of Michigan State at the Scouting Combine.

The Ravens hold the eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft â€" probably too high for any of the guys in this year's draft pool.

They probably should get somebody to throw to a WR...whens the last time they had a decent QB???

receiver Malcolm Kelly.
NICE someone's gonna grab him for sure i don't care what they say about his knee's ; 0!!!

The Ravens do need receiver but my guess is it won't be addressed until at least the second round as in my mind none of the receivers in this years draft are worth a top 10 pick.

we'll see huh? i think the ravens need a WR too maybe young troy smith has something in him to be there next QB....

Troy Smith needs a booster seat and pedal extensions to drive a car...he'll never make it in the NFL as a QB

is there anyone left in free agency? the draft recently has been OK, but they aren't top-tier guys.

ravens are gonna be bad for a long time

because the eagles are totally set for life.

the eagles are young the ravens are old and have no good impact players on offense except willis mcgahee, their o-line sux, their defense is aging, and they have not had a good quarterback in the history of their franchise

the Eagles are built for years to come...thats what Andy does

and yet you guys never seem to stop complaining.

and dont forget why the dolphins had one win

Here's the '07 totals for their entire receiving corps. 341 catches 3308yds 13 TD.(13 @#!@$TD's??)By comparison their opponents had 400+yds and 14 more TDs on 50 fewer completions.Summary:They are awful.Nice website, though.Cheerleaders look great.Good luck ,Jim Harbaugh!!!

Or is it John? One of 'em was a QB.Oh well.Ravens are still better at making underarmour commercials than playing football.Just wouldn't want them "protecting my house".

JOHN and remember he coached D Backs for the eagles......i really liked him and i know they are getting an excellent coach!!! We wish him & the team nothing but the best!!!!!!!!

oops my bad & he handled special teams for nine years !!!!!! they are getting an excellent man!!!

Steve McNair has still got some juice, i mean he won the division last season, people give up on too many black QBs easily i mean Jason Campbell (not my fav, prefer Collins, but Campbell has bright future) McNabb (all other non eagle fans view he sucks; they're high) Steve McNair (most prolific Houston Oiler QB, broke Warren Moon's records) Tarvaris Jackson (he sucks but in his defense he should not have played rookie season and now i look for him to improve he had a couple of good games last season). David Garrard is phenomenal but we said that about McNabb ( I still do), but David will face adversity it will be interesting to see how he handles it.

Correction, PrincedePhila: Last season, the Ravens finished in last place. Steve McNair did not win the division, and he looked pretty terrible and washed up during his limited playing time.

I must apologize for my fellow Philly fan..making this a black/white issue is older than Steve McNair! It's about winning games! I am sure Dewey wouldn't care if his skin was purple(hell, he might even like that because it matches his teams gaudy colors)as long as his team win the Lambardi..it is funny how this always comes up when a black QB has past his prime..I was a huge fan of McNair in Tennesse..he is fuggin' old!And if you are going to be ignorant enough to bring up race at least have your facts straight..The Ravens definitley felloff last year..You ar a year late.Steve McNair was great five years ago and he can't even stay on the field..but Troy Smith? I have talked to Baltimore fans on more than one occassion and respect their passion and knowledge for the game.Troy Smith will not win you games in the long run.period.

Don't make this a black QB issue

amen brotha

Yeah, this is definitely not about racism; it's about ageism. Steve's too old! Love the guy, but it's time to hang 'em up.

Nobody who was once a HOUSTON OILER has any juice left.

LMAO. Ding, ding, ding... we have a winner.

I dont know looking at the ravens from the outside I think they didnt have there best season mainly because Todd Heap was injured most of the season and because the defense is getting old.....we'll see what john harbaugh can do

aight dtrik19 just stop

Correction yet again Dewey; the year when the Colts won, Stevey had a great season and topped a division which included the New England Patriots. There ya go

Fun with stats:
McNair in '06, 3050 yds, (14th overall), 16 TD (tied for 20th in the league), 12 INT, 82.5 QB rating (14th), pretty much the definition of an average year.

Ravens D that year:
1st in pts allowed, 1st in yards allowed, 1st in giveaway/takeaway ratio.

With any offense, the Ravens win the Super Bowl instead of the Colts. I was at that 15-6 game, and it was painful to see just how inept the Ravens were on offense. Thanks, Brian Billick!

New England is in the AFC East..not the AFC North..thanks and have a great day!P.S...that was two seasons ago, not last year. Were you in the peace Corps.this year?If so, thank you....

We have a QB...TROY SMITH.

I'm a big Troy Smith fan. He looked great in limited time last year.

You must either be:
A)kidding
B)an Ohio State fan
C)smoking dope

and...
JOE FLACCO.

Harbaugh is a Reid disciple and you got to think, like every mock draft post out there that if Matt Ryan is available he is their man...but they could alwys trade down and get one of these guys and try and get Brian Brohm or the kid from Delaware, both of their "stock" has raised since the combine..

I thought the ravens had like..... 643106531 billion receivers?
Theyve got... CLAYTON, mason, justin harper, Marcus Smith, Wilcox, Darling..... and many more...
They dont need anybody... but from the list.... MALCOM KELLY!!!!!!!
i love those oklahoma receivers!
haha
but, i think the sooners need him a bit longer....
I think clayton needs his year to shine
