the reason he was shot and not his baby and baby-momma is because he this was a hit. he apparently did something really bad to somebody really really bad. and he was off'd.

Obviously this nimrod isn't capable of thinking beyond his racist ideology (i.e. Baby Momma). He fails to realize the substance of the message; being that Taylor was passionately devoted to his girlfriend and child, a devotion that many of his peers neglect. That, coupled with the fact that he realized he needed to change his delinquent lifestyle at such a young age, makes him a hero. If his death is presumably the result of a "hit", then one can also make the presumption that it was provoked by an occurrence from his previous lifestyle. In a time when the NFL has seen a record number of suspensions for delinquent activity, Taylor was unafraid to make an image change (unlike Pac Man, Chris Henry etc.). Thus in my opinion... making him a hero.
