Shaun Rogers Will Be Released by the Lions Soon: Do the Eagles Make a Move for Him?

Defensive line depth cannot be understated. Patterson and Bunkley are superstars in the making. But with the soon to be released Shaun Rogers on the market, do the Eagles make a play for him?

Imagine Rogers in the D-Line rotation for Philly!

Rogers is not only a space eater, he demands double teams and at the top of his game, is still one of the most dominating and disruptive DT in the game. The two time Pro Bowler Rogers is coming off a career-high sack season (7). The addition of Rogers to the Eagles will also free up the DE particularly Trent Cole allowing him to be even more productive. Not to mention, the addition of Rogers will also allow the Eagles great group of LB's to roam free and make plays!

The knock on Rogers is his endurance but with Patterson and Bunkley, Rogers' endurance issues isn't a major as it was with the Lions who had no real depth at D-Line.

Patterson, Bunkley, Rogers and Cole along with that LB corp will give all offensive coordinator nightmares and challenge the '91 Eagles for the best defense EVER!

I do believe he would be a great start to our D-Line. Let's just hope Andy feels the same.

With Rogers, there will be no need for another DE. The attention he and Trent Cole will demand with double teams, it will allow Juqua Thomas, Abiamiri and Kearse to be very effective as one on one pass rushers. Kearse, who I do believe is staying, still has the speed to blaze pass most RT's.

Would be a great addition to our team for sure. Imagine him AND Jared Allen along the line. That would surely emulate the 91 Eagles defense. If we also take a few decent free agent wr's (Bernard Berrian and perhaps bring Stallworth back) we will be set for a Superbowl. We wouldn't even have to trade away draft picks in order to obtain a superstar wide reciever. Or we could possibly see what happens with the Larry Fitzgerald situation now that his cap hit is nearly 16 MILLION dollars this year! Yikes! I'd give up our 2nd and 5th for Larry (assuming he would be open to restructuring his contract).

Fitzgerald isn't going anywhere. He's under contract and the Cards aren't interested in dealing him...and why would they? They don't need to save the money.

Jared Allen is going to want something close to what Freeney got (which was 6yrs $72 mil) there is no way the Eagles are forking over that sort of money. If Rogers is released, he will be a bargain, Allen is a whole different scenario. He's going to demand top dollar.
Allen does have off the field issues which might shy the Eagles away, remember he was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the 2007 season for repeat violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

This is true (About Jared Allen). I think after the TO fiasco we are staying faaaaaaar faaaaar away from anyone who may cause trouble. Fitzgerald has made it know that he is unhappy in AZ and wants to be a #1. Perfect fit for him in Philly. We are definitely lacking at the DT position. But maybe our money would be wiser spent elsewhere..say on Asante Samuel and move Sheldon Brown to safety? As for the 72 Million comment on Allen. I don't think we are afraid to spend the big money. Remember..Kearse was the highest paid defensive linemen in the league with the 60+ million we gave him. And now I think we are on the brink of cutting him or trading him and a pick for someone who is say.."unhappy".

FORGET Asante Samuel ! He's gonna want 80 mil!!! Nnamdi Asomugha is more of what the EAGLES are looking for, 6"2, 210lbs!!! And yes, I agree with Latinfrno, Brown at saftey!! Remember what he did to Reggie Bush!!!!!

i think moving brown to safety is a good move as well. he will be very effective there. i like asomugha as well.

people are forgetting nate clements contract! asante samuel is much better than clements so he's not going to accept anything less than $80 mil! he already has a ring so it's all about the money with him.

I just wanna see some results whether its Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Smauel, Jared Allen or Shaun Rogers give us Playmakers

i second that!

If yall want a player that might give you half a game, you can have him... dont get me wrong, he has skills and can take control of a game, but he has to want to and that drive seems to be missing... as for building a team, he is a distraction...

With Patterson and Bunkley, all the Eagles have to do is rotate Rogers. He'll stay fresh and thus extremely effective!

If yall have some depth there, he just may fare better... big day coming up Mar 1... He is owed a $1M bonus from the Lions... If they pay it to him, he will probably be around until the start of camp at least... no official word that he has been released yet...

he's also due $4.25 million, $5.25 million, and $7 million over the next three years, respectively.

at a news conference marinelli had this to say about rogers:
"he was a good player for us for nine games," marinelli said then. "but it's the endurance all the way through the season, that's what I'm looking for."

marinelli has repeated expressed his frustration with rogers...the lions won't be keeping him around

go get em eagles we need em

yes, but no hurry to release him now to avoid his salary... the bonus looms soon... I agree, think (and hope actually) that he is let go...

you can have him because after he had to stop using steroids because he got busted last year his fat out of shape but sat on the bench for half of the game all year long even on critical 3rd and short when they needed him he was just too out of shape to get on the feild

actually the substance he got suspended for using was a banned dietary substance...not steroids!

Word from Lions coach is no outright release... either a trade or he will be in camp...
