Sheppard and Westbrook

Ok so today the hated Dallas Cowboys gave both Marion Barber and Terrance Newman brand new huge contracts. They are keeping their best young running back and a solid number one corner for a long time now. My question is why don't the Eagles ever do the same? Westbrook is more than deserving of getting a new contract, and in order to keep sheppard happy, and when healthy one of the top corners in the league it all but makes sense. The difference.... The Iggles rarely will renegotiate contracts with players that are currently under contract other than McNabb and correct if I am wrong they haven't given anyone else a big deal while under contract. I think this is stupid, as much as i hate to say it I would have handled the T.O situation a little differently and looked at his production and fixed his contract a little for him, westbrook, dawkins, trotter at the time all deserved new contracts and the refuse to negotiate with them. I hate Jerry Jones but he is willing to resign is top players in order to win a championship.

well, let's face it. Lito has been injured way to often to deserve a new contract. and Westbrook is getting older, so they might be hesitant to give him one. although he sure deserves it. Then Sheldon will want a new contract, Shawn Andrews, and the dominoes will keep falling after that.

Will you say this when they can't resign T.O. because they signed Romo, Barber, Newman, and soon Ware to hugely overvalued contracts??? How do you think T.O. will react to being one of the lowest paid players on the team now IMMEDIATELY after proclaiming he wouldn't make a fuss about the contract situation?

Lito will get paid if he earns his money but he has to prove he can stay on the field. When on the field, he is one of the best corners in the game, but he has averaged 5 games missed over the last three seasons. Westbrook JUST received a contract extension in 2005. IT IS 2008!!! The reason he isn't making a fuss about it is he knows that the Eagles recognize his value to the team, but he negotiated that contract and can't be mad when it is under market value only 3 years later.

Keep all these facts in mind when looking around the league and asking "Why don't the Eagles do like ______________?"

Why would Dallas have any trouble resigning T.O.? Both of these contracts are extremely cap friendly. For the record, Ware has two years left on his deal while we have two players without a contract at all in Hamlin and Canty. Neither will prevent the club from resigning T.O. if he wants to stay. The only thing that will keep T.O. out is T.O.. If he refuses to acknowlege his age when negotiating he'll probably wind up playing somewhere else, otherwise he'll retire a Cowboy.

The summer isn't over yet. Who says on of the teams won't sign a receiver before it's all said and done?

Nice comments qwest336, the eagles renogotiated almost all of their players while they were under contract or before their contracts were up. Its called smart, These players didn't have to sign the contract then or even take the bonus money. They chose to do that themselves, sometimes I get upset and think that the FO could do more about signing players like TO or shepard to new deals but what would then stop the land slide of everyone asking for a new deal then, also most of the guys asking for new deals just resigned to new deals a couple of years ago. Why be mad at the front office for a deal that the player just signed, what are they supposed to redo deal every year? Besides that one reason we are never in salary cap trouble.

I would like to say, how in dee hell did he get two thumbs up for big uppin a post that I made but I didn't get any?!? lol

There you go Qwest336. I just gave you one.

How many more years do you honestly think Westbrook has at the level he is at now? I can answer that for you easily....3 or 4 max. Thats just the sad reality of running backs in this league, especially ones who have to carry the load that he has to. I love B West...but the clocks ticking. Besides...do you honestly think Barber or Newman are worth that much money? Let the Cowgirls waste $ on mediocre talent.

The amusing thing is both players in question from the Eagles were given contract extensions before their previous contracts had expired already. But clearly its a problem that will lead to the demise of the birds.

Your last sentence makes you sound like an idiot...are you?

LMAO. Why'd you have to go there?

What did he say??

There is a difference. Barber and Newman were in the last year of their contracts.

That's funny. Everyone was singing Barber's praises all season and now he isn't worth the money. That's way too funny.

can barber do what he did last year, the whole game this year though? He won't come in fresher then the defense in the 4th quarter like last season.

He's worth a new contract, great 3rd down back to have if Felix is who they think he is. But almost 7 mill a year??? Thats a bit steep for a guy who won't be on the field for every down on offense.

Well, after seeing a QB in Atlanta get 72M and not playing a down in the NFL yet, I don't know if that's too much money now. All of these guys make too much money. At least Barber did something to prove he deserved more money last year. Plus, we did draft Tashard Choice. If he can play a couple of downs, then Barber will be fresh in the 4th quarter.

The Matt Ryan deal is a whole different issue...the Falcons aren't the best run franchise though. As for Choice...who knows if he will be anything or not, not an overly impressive kid in college but we'll see how he pans out. He'll definitely benefit from playing with Barber and Jones though.

Not overly impressive, but he did lead the SEC in rushing for two consecutive years and that's not a weak conference. Time will tell , for sure. It's a done deal and I don't have any control over how much Mr. Jones gives his players. I just know they needed to sign the guy and he is a "beast", so we'll see where it goes.

I can't wait till the Cowgirls blow it again this year! Will that be 12, or 13 straight years without a playoff win?

Eskin.....you better be worried more about your own team even getting to the playoffs, much less winning a playoff game.

His numbers on the field were considerably better than Michael Turner's last season and he got paid the same. (a little more total package, a little less guaranteed) If Felix is who we think he is Barber will have an incredible season. The question for me is whether or not he will be worth it at the end of the deal. His style is punishing to defenses and himself, I'm afraid.

Now, I'm not comparing him totally to Adrian Peterson, but Barber does like to finish runs and punish people, so he may not last too long. I guess we'll see.

MARION BARBER IS A BEAST--I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HIM ON TEAM---AS FOR WESTBROOK,HE JUST SIGN A HEFTY CONTRACT---HE IS GOING TO GET MONEY ANYWAY--AS FOR LITO SHEPPARD,HE HAS BEEN INJURY PRONE,CAN'T STAY ON THE FIELD---THE EAGELES HAD TO ADDRESS THAT THRU FA OR DRAFT!!!!

You have impecable spelling and linguistic abilities...you make all Eagle fans proud

You, my friend, are a linguistically skilled person of the highest caliber.

i was hoping he wasn't an eagles fan... damn

Everyone say it with me now...

E-A-G-E-L-E-S-EAGELES!!!

*snicker

I am a jacksonville jag fan people---the fo there, does not mess around, but I love dmac--just imagine dmac in jacksonville--I would see a super bowl--david garard, does not make mistakes, and fred taylor future hall of famer---THE EAGLES GOT TALENT--BUT NEED TO ADDRESS,THERE WR ISSUES---JUST LIKE THE JAGS--WE GOT PORTER--HE IS A PROVEN #1 WR,TO SCARE DEFENSE'S PERIOD.

i do like the addition of jerry porter. although not a "true # 1" , he can stretch the field, and has reliable hands. Surely an upgrade. Williamson, Reggie, and Porter, are a great WR corp. Throw in two great RB, and Garrard, and your D, and you got a superbowl team. to bad that this is the Eagle's year.

The Jags will be a contender next year. Unfortunately, the are in the same division as the Colts and they have N.E. to contend with. If they get through that, I'm all for them winning it all.
