Sources: Dallas Cowboys Offer Barber Deal For $30M. Running Back Wants Package For Between $40-60 Million

Marion Barber made it to the Pro Bowl last season without starting a regular-season game. Now, he's looking for a big payday.

The Cowboys have held preliminary talks with the running back's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, according to multiple sources, and are offering a financial package in the $30 million range.

Barber wants a package between $40 million and $60 million.

I think he's a good back. But LT type of money? That's a little hard for me to swallow. Sure, he hasn't had the chance to be the full fledge starter so I think that is taken into consideration. Durability could also be a factor in that it's really a mystery at this point. Forget Dallas trading with the Dolphins..think..Raiders swapping 1st round picks with Dallas and Barber to if things get ugly. A little bit of a reach...but is it?

Barber is not worth LT type of money at this juncture of his career. He's had one good season and , like you said, can he be a full-time starter? I think he can, but he still needs another back in there to compliment him.

I agree with you.He shouldn't get that type of money but stranger things have happened.

Raiders 1st and Lamont Jordan
Dallas 22nd, Barber and a conditional pick next year. That trade would actually make sense if Mcfadden were to fall to the Raiders. Thoughts?

Well, the Raiders could go for McFadden, so that wouldn't be a bad deal. We'll take McFadden. I know Jerry would love to have him if they could swing a reasonable deal. Al and Jerry are buddies, so who knows?

lotta $$$$ nice fiver!!!

He's worth more, but not top echelon money like LT. I'm sure they will work something out.

ouch i dont think jerry jones wants to give him that.......HELL i dont think Al Davis would want to give him that good write up

Barber is one of my favorite backs to watch. His style of play is old school, hard-nose ball and its great. But he is not worth 40-60 Million. I dont think he can last a full 16 games PLUS playoffs all game. You saw the playoff game with the giants that dallas got away from the run. If Barber became better conditioned and didnt just run into contact for the hell of it he could be even better, but even then hes not in the same tier as LT, Westbrook, or even Adrian Peterson.

I really like Barber but I don't think he is a top 10 back in the league yet. Plus the Jaguars have two great running backs in Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew who are both among the top 15 in the league in my opinion and combined they don't make anywhere near the money that Barber wants..

Agreed. He still has to prove he can carry the load for the whole season and be 'The Man". If he eats the league up next season, then give him some money. He could end up being trade bait if he doesn't watch it.

FIVERINGS- Good article bro...Barber will do just fine as long as he can stay healthy! We'll just have to let time do it's thing and reveal the monster he really is...duece-foe....!

Thanks. You're right. He's got a good offensive line, so he's going to keep eating it up this season. He'll be ready.

I could see jerry giving him a deal in the low 40 millions but I don't think he will go higher than that...jerry has to watch the money...we still gotta sign dware to a monster contract and we still have to resign hamlin and tnew...we'll see what happens

Shawn Alexander should have shown teams that you do not pay big money to a back, they are too easy to find. Barber was what a 3rd rounder? Dallas is going to run a two back system like most teams in the NFL and there is no reason to tie up several million in a guy wh is one injury away from being half the player he is now ala Deuce McAllister.
Pay him the $30 million, that's still a sh--load for a guy who will share the load at RB.

True. He can't go anywhere anyway. He's got a tender on him that required a 1st and 3rd round pick if he goes anywhere this season.

Yea shawn alexander was a first round pick. Also has proven him self as a back... Has marion Barber even been to a probowl... I think not... We will see how he goes under a full season..Not just let's beat up julius jones and give barber the easy runs we will see this year...If he has a break out year then pay him what your going to pay him.

"Marion Barber made it to the Pro Bowl last season without starting a regular-season game." - did you even read the article Reds1214?? I will tell you how Barber will do this season, and anyone else who doubts him, he'll do just fine. Barber is an animal on the field, one of the last runners with that hunger!! The only thing that isn't clear, is if he can stay healthy for a whole season while carrying the load?? He is so relentless that he puts his body on the line....risking unnecessary injury.

Thank you, Benny.

He proved that you give a back big money and his production drops. People can say it was the loss of Hutchinson, he has been hurt whatever you want, it's still proof that you don't invest a lot of money in RBs, you can 2 maybe 3 other guys for the same money.
Has NE had a big money back?
Did Indy win it with James?
The Giants won it after their big money back retired.

Good point...you still don't want to run your future running back off the team, you have to keep him happy to some extent?? NY got lucky with the production of Bradshaw!

Look at the production Reggie Bush has given the Saints so far? Wouldn't they love to have Addai or Maroney or Barber.

I hear you, it's definitly a crap shoot so why pay them more than you have to? That goes both ways though. You still risk the chance of losing a good RB that could crush you when it counts. You always know what you have but you can't predict the future...

apparently reds1214 u can't read cause he made the probowl last season

Hmmm.........Barber just had a bunch of easy runs this past season, huh? Pretty easy to break all of those tackles and get extra yards and also catch passes out of the backfield. What have you been smoking?

No I didn't read the article I just can't stand dallas...

No kidding, Reds1214??

Oh well.

lol... 40-60 million that is nuts... Giving an unproven player that kind of money...We don't even pay westbrook that.

True, he needs to prove himself...but I guess that's what this season is all about. As far as Westbrook not getting near that much money, sounds like he should get with his agent and maybe come up with a plan, he only has himself to blame.

True but he did get that exra mil he was overpayed and then returned.
