The Moustache and McNabb

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Save all the rumor-mongering about Donovan McNabb. It's not as though the Eagles categorically wouldn't trade him. But the chances of some team blowing Philadelphia away with an offer for a 31-year-old quarterback who has missed at least two games due to injury in four of his last six seasons is very, very small.

"If you got a ridiculous offer for McNabb,'' Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked at the NFC Coaches Breakfast at the league meetings this morning, "would you consider trading him?'' "No,'' Reid said, and paused. "Probably not.'' Reid said he has heard from no team interested in trading for McNabb, and he didn't expect to.

A ridiculous offer is more than a first-round pick, and probably more than a high first-round pick from a team like Baltimore, which picks eighth in the first round. The reason Reid won't close the door entirely -- aside from the fact that he's an honest man -- is because there are logical teams out there in need of a quarterback who should be calling him. Chicago and Baltimore have the most playoff-ready teams with the biggest quarterback needs in the league, but neither teams seems inclined to pick up the phone, ruin their 2008 draft and try to pry McNabb from the Eagles.

It's surprising they wouldn't at least try, given the way McNabb played late last year, when his surgically repaired right knee was fully healthy. He was the old mobile McNabb in December, and he was also extremely efficient. In his final four games, he completed 65 percent of his throws for 995 yards, six touchdowns and one interception.

Reid made a joke about it today, recalling the time nine years ago that then-Saints coach Mike Ditka said he'd trade his entire draft for Ricky Williams. He said it at these meetings in jest -- and then he actually ended up doing it. "Remember Ditka?'' Reid said. Left unspoken was his feeling that if someone came to him with a silly offer, he'd obviously have to consider it.

That's likely not going to happen. I asked Reid if he were advising fantasy football players whether to take McNabb this season, what would he say?

"You want to know the 10 things I think I think I know?'' he said, mocking my Monday Morning Quarterback column and laughing. "Take him.'

-Hopefully that kills all talk of Super 5 leaving-

yeah it was a good read even for a cowboy fan LMAO!!!! u crack me up!!!!!!

I don't understand why everyone is saying he is going to leave Philly. There is actually a pool going around our office betting on him leaving at the beginning of '08 season. I don't see it happening, but I also thought NE was going to win the supberbowl..so who knows!

If Reid wants to stay in Philly and keep eating those cheesesteaks, he'll keep him.
