Lauren Jackson wins MVP

Lauren Jackson wins MVP for the second time now what do we do about it. It's taking away from the American born players such as Becky Hammon who should have won it because she made it to the conference finals. So what now if the Storm move to Oklahoma City LJ will not return to the WNBA. It makes no sense.

The current MVP of the WNBA

Like the NBA, The MVP goes to the BEST PLAYER. Lauren Jackson was that. Becks had a good year and yes the team got to the CF. But Lauren put up the numbers! unfortunately the team fell short from grace this year. Nash to me, was the MVP ''HANDS DOWN!'' in '06-'07. Not Dirk. And both of them are foreign players. So i really don't but into the whole ''American as Apple Pie shpeel'' The trophy goes to THE BEST PLAYER regardless of where origin/country they are from.

i meant put. lol!

Becky is about half the player LJ is, she is the best in the league, and just because this is an American league doesn't mean awards should go to only American born players. If you play in the league and are the best then you win. Becky wants to win then she better step it up a notch, she had a great year in scoring, but rebounds and blocks need some work, oh and being #1 in TO's won't get you the MVP either.

I just think its a load of garbage to be honest. Ive played it coy for the past few days after the announcment was made, but I have to vent just a little on the subject at hand. Becky Hammon helped her team whether she was in the lineup or injured. She was a leader, floor-general, and team captain. She posted the best numbers of her career, one that was cut short a season due to an ACL tear in her right knee. If anyone keeps up with her, you know that year was an MVP type season for Becky. Hands down I believe if she hadnt went down she would've been league MVP at the end of that season.
Lauren Jackson has already won a WNBA title and an MVP award, not to mention all of the All-WNBA First team honors she's racked up. Why couldnt they give it to Becky, who in my mind, did so much more for her team. Its like Kobe Bryant in the NBA. If I got as many looks as he did Id be playing for the Lakers too! Kobe is a great player, but I think after a while we should look to other players for the things they do for their team, not so much on who scores the most points and gets the spotlight. Steve Nash did exactly that, and he won MVP 2 years in a row. He's a leader. Kobe is trying to run the show in L.A., and he likes to run his mouth when things arent going so well, but loves it when he's jackin' up 70 points and eating up all the spotlight. He's arrogant, selfish, and one of the rudest players in the NBA today. Lauren isnt like that, but I think its time other players were rewarded for what they do for their team these days.
Sue Bird didnt really have an All-Star season like we've all seen her have, but she's still an amazing player. But other than Sue, the rest of the team is there to feed the ball to the star of the show: Lauren. It doesnt matter if she's australian, chinese, asian, etc. Lauren is a great player, but so is Becky Hammon. And Lauren is rumored to hang 'em up at the end of the season, and if she does, that's just a load of crap in my book. From day one Becky Hammon set out to take her team to the playoffs and hopefully to the finals, and she did. The Storm struggled all year, and luckily made the playoffs before they were knocked out of the first round. Not by grace, but because they played everything around Lauren the whole time.
The only thing Lauren has going for her is she can score and rebound on a team that doesnt have that many options to go to. Becky Hammon is 5'6

Becky Hammon is 5'6" and leads the league in assists, is one of the top scorers every year, and she's almost automatic from the FT line on a team filled full of potential All-Stars. If I had to pick and choose, Id pick 10 Becky Hammon's over one Lauren Jackson. Because she's a very smart, tough, and gutty guard that plays hard-nose fundamentally sound basketball day in and day out. You never hear her complain, you never hear her whine and cry. Even after Phoenix ran away with the WCF, Becky was cool and calm when asked about the officiating during the series. She never said much. It takes class to keep your mouth closed on refs because athletes love to toungue lash the refs at will.

And another thing..Becky Hammon is a guard, she cant "step it up a notch" on blocking seeing that she's a guard. When was the last time a guard led the league in blocks? Exactly. I cant remember when there was, and she's been known to be one of the best rebounding guards in the league for the past few years now. Sure, she has TO issues. So what! It still doesnt concede the fact that she played better for her team, done more for her team, and gave her team a heck of a lot more oppurtunities with her in and out of the lineup. Lauren just went in and was stall fed the basketball until the game was over. Even when she didnt play they lost. It takes finesse and a lot of heart to play in this league at Becky's size, so blocks and rebounds arent what they necessarily look for a 5'6" guard to improve on a lot.

I was hoping for Penny Taylor, myself. But kudos to Lauren.
