Will the Broncos Win the AFC West?

This year's race for the division in the west is basically a two team race between the Broncos and Chargers. Most people have picked San Diego to win the west, but I think Denver has a much better shot than people think. Their team is vastly improved from last years squad, mostly because of the many offseason changes and signings. With the addition of Travis Henry in the backfield, it makes Denver's running game greater than it was simply because they have the best back, right now, that they have had since Terrell Davis. It is basically a given that the running game will be one of the best in the league. The Broncos also picked up Daniel Graham and Brandon Stokley to go with Javon Walker, Rod Smith, and Brandon Marshall give Jay Cutler more weapons to throw to. And Jay Cutler will be very good, he is smart and has a great arm. They also signed Pat Ramsey to give them a solid backup if Cutler gets hurt. On the defensive side of the ball, their biggest signing was Dre' Bly, who will go opposite the best defensive player in the league, Champ Bailey and John Lynch, will help make the Denver secondary the best in the league, bar none. And with the pick up of Sam Adams, second year man Elvis Dumervil, who led the Broncos in sacks last year as a rookie, to go along with recently drafted Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, and Marcus Thomas, will definately make the pass rush legit. Also, D.J. Williams is a very good linebacker and complemented by Ian Gold. The defense will be better than people expect, and that is what Denver will need to get the division crown. Yes, San Diego does have great talent at many positions, like LaDainian Tomlinson, Shawne Merriman, and Antonio Gates and will be very good this season, but Denver will definately be there at the end of the regular season to play for the title. I give them a great shot because of the abundance of talent, the running game, and Mike Shanahan. Remember, second to last game, Christmas Eve, Denver at San Diego. That just might be the deciding game.

I agree that if either Denver or San Diego wins both division games against each other; that team will win the AFC West. That being said in all liklihood, these two teams will split wins with each winning at home and is probably safe to say that will end up having the same division record should each team sweep KC and Oakland.

When I break down these 2 team schedules I look at it as wins on paper as follows
San Diego
Wk1: vs Chicago (win)
Wk 2 @ New England (loss)
Wk 3 @ GB (win)
Wk 4 vs KC (win)
Wk 5 @ Den (loss)
wk 6 vs Oak (win)
wk 7 bye
wk 8 vs Hou (win)
wk 9 @ Min (win)
wk 10 vs Ind (win)
wk 11 @ Jac (win)
wk 12 vs Balt (loss)
wk 13 @ KC (win)
wk 14 @ Ten (win)
wk 15 vs Det (win)
wk 16 vs Den (win)
wk 17 @ Oak (win)
Final Record: 13-3

Denver
Wk 1 @ Buf (win)
Wk 2 vs Oak (win)
Wk 3 vs Jack (win)
Wk 4 @ Ind (loss)
Wk 5 vs SD (win)
wk 6 bye
wk 7 vs Pit (loss)
wk 8 vs GB (win)
wk 9 @ Det (win)
wk 10 @ KC (win)
wk 11 vs Ten (win)
wk 12 @ Chi (loss)
wk 13 @ Oak (win)
wk 14 vs KC (win)
wk 15 @ Hou (win)
wk 16 @ SD (loss)
wk 17 vs Min (win)
Final record: 12-4

While of course it's impossible in the pre-season to put to paper what will actually happen in the season, I think the hypothesis that while Denver should be greatly improved from last season, I think they talent for talent SD will still prove to be the better team.

Denver will have their share of ups and downs, but so will San Diego. It's not too often that a team with a new head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator wins a division. The Chargers will be a force, but expect some bumps along the way.

As an avid Broncos fan i'm obviously biased to want to believe in the a Denver western championship. However, Denver's inconsistencies in the past few seasons extended beyond the QB position despite all the blame we put on Jake the snake. I'm excited about our prospects and I think we have a potential winner but I feel like the secondary has lost some strength and I have worries about whether the defense will be able to shutdown a team with as many weapons as SD during their two matchups which will obviously be key. Then again maybe SD just implodes under the weight of its own expectations and we take the division in a cakewalk. Hey, it could happen, McWorld!!!!

Oakland will win this division..oh wait, that was in an alternate universe. In this reality the superchargers will coast. Denver and their one good eye head coach will be back by commitee by week 3 and out of playoff hunt by week 10.

Lets all look at this closer denver has the easier schedule this is the first time denver has lost both games against SD in the same year since the 80'sand lets look at denver last year who didnt have a good back field or a great QB situation and aswell TE lacked i think if we all think back to the superbowl wiining broncos they were a complete team..... and denver this year is a complete team. Yeah talent for talent SD takes it but its not always about talent it sometimes comes down to the x factor heart gates has shown he is about the money due to a contract disputes a few years ago denvers system on oline makes up for the lack of talent from SD oline runningback LT is the best in this game right now and by retirement may be the best to play so i wont argue that i will state that with denvers system Henry shouldnt be to far behind LT this year QB's we can argue both ways but the edge has to go to Rivers this season he is a winner thats what he was born to do TE denver has way more depth and passing is easier out of a 2 TE set for Denver then SD WR ok SD fans no fighting here your first string WR would be lucky to be called a top wr in the nfl lets flip to D ok jammer VS bailey this is a joke denver has a much better secondary safteys and corners just a big diff between denvers and SD it just cause SD pass rush that there secondary doesnt look like swiss cheese your best line backer and i am happy to argue this is sean phillips he can blitz when you need him he can drop back to defend the pass or get in the box on short yardage merriman is just a beast at pass rushing i dont consider him an everydown back D-line is ard for me to break down since the systems are different its to hard to compare a 3-4 to a 4-3 i personally like the 4-3 i think 3-4 leaves you a little exposed between the tacklesso we can call this a draw as far as coaches Mike is a proven coach in the NFL and a winner last year was the first year in a long time that denver has not made the playoffs mike will push them unlike the rumors of Norv with a lack of motivation Mike is a better offensive minded coach Norv can make a good QB outta nothing but your QB isnt your team so denver has the better head coach plus a system that they have ran since1995 and the addition of jim bates makes this one of the best coached teams in the NFL SD has had to many changes in coaching and you cant expect LT to put up last years #'s and thats what would be needed in order for them to be a great team this year Denver with theeasier schedule and more depth in the roster with the better coaching staff will make a run into the playoffs look for henry to be a top 5 back barring injuryit will be close i can see it going to a game either way but i look for denver to squeek it out and above were the schedule was broken down it was from a charger fan you can tell he didnt calculate any upsets for SD and has denver loosing to indy and chi were they will get away with one of these and with bly added across from bailey you have to ask you has the better qb and more targets i think denver takes the bears downand keep an eye out on the raiders they may make a move to 3rd in this division with the declined chiefs and the......somewhat improved offense in oak i think oak's problem was coaching and i think thats fixed its sad cause they have a playoff defense

all the way

most definitely not. The Chargers will likely finish 12-4 while the broncos 9-7.
