The Philadelphia Eagles have released Kenny Phillips, the free agent acquisition they thought could help fill black hole at the safety position in 2013. Phillips just could never really get on the field in camp or in the preseason due to one injury or another.
For the past few weeks it’s been a quad injury, but the main issue with Phillips are his knees.
In 2009, Phillips was placed on IR after needing micro-fracture surgery on his left knee due to a condition called “patellofemoral arthritis”, which is really just a fancy word for arthritis of the knee.
Arthritis can be treated in order to reduce pain and delay the onset, but it is a degenerative condition and cannot be cured. That’s why Phillips was able to return to action in 2010 and 2011 and even perform at a high level of play.
