It used to be that Michael Jordan symbolized the epitome of greatness within the NBA. Time has pushed him to the very top as the man that every professional athlete measures himself against when he claims to be indeed…great.
Take the Minnesota Viking’s Adrian Peterson. AP is a freak-of-nature. The way that he bounced back from a devastating injury in December to barely lose a step in September is the stuff of legends.
But even he aspires to be Jordan and he’s taking another teammate with him as he claims his share of the greatness pie.
“I know talent,” Peterson told the Star Tribune. “I can watch Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and see the difference.”
“There are two Jordans on this team. I’m not trying to be cocky. I’m just very confident in my abilities,” Peterson said, calling Harvin the “best player” he’s ever suited up with.
Ok so… Adrian Peterson just said that both he and Percy Harvin are the NFL equivalent of Michael Jordan.
MJ himself must get a nice kick in the ego every time someone states that he is their measure of an icon.
But this has really gotten out of hand. Percy Harvin is a good wideout that is off to a great start. He has yet to reach legend status.
Even Peterson himself has a long way to go before he can hold himself up to those accolades.
Besides, what’s so wrong with paying homage to Walter Peyton, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith?
C’mon people.
