Houston Texans, FLAT: What is there to say? The Houston Texans are the clear favorite in the AFC South, and there seems to be no valid reason that they won't retain their title atop the division. In the grand scheme of things, the Texans have a very real opportunity to make it a three horse race for the AFC title. The Broncos and Patriots will get all the press, but expect the Texans to be in the race when the playoffs come around. Indianapolis Colts, FLAT: The Colts are a tough stock. On one hand, they spent a lot of money this offseason, trying to improve their roster. On the other hand, interim head coach Bruce Arians is gone, and we're still not sure if Chuck Pagano is a great head coach or not. In the short term, we're calling the Colts "flat" simply because they look like a middle of the road football team, but they're really a wildcard. We'll have to wait and see if the Colts will be able to follow up last season's performance with something even better. Jacksonville Jaguars, UP: The Jaguars would be very lucky to jump to second best in the AFC South, but make no mistake, they're heading in the right direction, albeit, slowly. The Jaguars' biggest flaw is their lack of a franchise quarterback. Without that key element, the Jaguars will likely flounder around the 6-10 mark, but if they overachieve or a quarterback emerges on their roster, we could see that number jump to 8-8. Tennessee Titans, DOWN: Mike Munchak is entering a make-or-break year as the Titans' head coach, and frankly, I'm not seeing anything that indicates he'll be able to get the Titans back where they need to be. Jake Locker hasn't panned out in the NFL just yet, and if he takes any longer, he runs the risk of being benched. The Titans are outmatched by both the Texans and the Colts, and any game against the Jaguars may as well be a toss up. The difference is the Jaguars are going through the process of building. The Titans look more like a team about ready to blow it up. [follow]
