The Chicago Bears made a commitment to addressing their aerial attack this offseason by acquiring Brandon Marshall from the Miami Dolphins and drafting Alshon Jeffery in the second round of April's draft.

Despite Jeffery's stellar preseason (eight receptions, 106 yards) he has been placed as the No. 3 wideout on the depth chart behind Marshall and Devin Hester.

That doesn't mean he won't push his way to a starting role by mid-season.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. reports that Jeffery should be a matchup problem as teams will likely double Marshall, and could be a touchdown poacher due to his size.

Jeffery's size and strength–6'3" 216-pounds–is even getting praise from his teammates, most notably from Pro Bowl corner back Charles Tillamn, for his ability.

“The best way to say it is, he’s a Brandon Marshall in the making,” Tillman told the Sun-Times. “He has that capability to be as good as Brandon if he continues to have the work ethic and work on ball skills and work to be a better player.

“But he can definitely be on that level.”

It's as if Bears brass is expecting Jeffery to take over the starting role at some point this season, so Hester and/or Earl Bennett can man the slot.

Head coach Lovie Smith loves the way he's worked in camp and preseason, dropping about 25 pounds to get in his current physical condition.

“He’s been outstanding,” coach Lovie Smith said. “He’s doing everything we ask him to, showing up, working hard.

“A rookie is supposed to come in and keep his mouth shut and learn and work hard and make plays, and he’s done all of that. It’s easy to like him.”

Although Jeffery won't be a starter, he has all the intangibles to take over that role sooner, rather than later.
