He’s well respected in NFL circles, and arrived with Bill Belichick in 2000. He’s been a part of the transformation of the New England Patriots, from doormats to champions. He’s learned from some of the best coaches in the business, including Romeo Crennell, the architect of the 2003-2004 great defenses. He’s coached Ted Bruschi, Ted Johnson, Roman Phifer, and a host of others.
However, no dice again for Pepper Johnson who must be wondering what he has to do to get a shot. It may come with another team, and we can see Tom Dimitroff or some other former Patriots personnel turned GM snag him from the Patriots.
Matt Patricia was named the new Patriots defensive coordinator on Thursday, thus leaving Johnson stood up at the alter again. Johnson has 23 years of NFL experience under his belt, 10 with the Patriots. He’s a 60 Max favorite, and we never forget the Super Bowl against the St. Louis Rams, Johnson yelling “Get your rest” to the defense with 2 minutes remaining.
