TEAMS: New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints
In a surprising addition to the injury report today, the Giants announced the WR Ramses Barden suffered a concussion in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.
With the health of WR Hakeem Nicks already in question, and the secondary losing players like, well, like they do every year, can they overcome another key injury? Losing key players at the beginning of the season seems to be a trend for this New York Giants team. After the Giants lost Terrell Thomas for the year, again, Keith Rivers, David Diehl, Hakeem Nicks and others all already having missed time, the Giants are running thin at more than one position.
Barden showed flashes of brilliance against the Panthers two weeks ago, but also foolishness against the Eagles on Sunday. Nevertheless, if Barden cannot pass the baseline tests for concussions and misses the game on Sunday the Giants may give rookie Ruben Randle more of a look. Hakeem Nicks will hopefully be able to play through pain and combine with Victor Cruz and Domenik Hixon on the field.
The schedule makers did not do the Giants any favors as they had the toughest schedule coming into the year. The only break the Giants seem to have when looking at the records of the remaining opponents after this week would be the 0-4 New Orleans Saints. Considering the Saints as your weakest opponent should tell you all you need to know about their road to the playoffs.
Eli Manning has, to this point, put the club on his back. But can even Eli survive more injuries to the WR position? If Eli can keep up his current pace and lead the team to an 11-5 or even 10-6 record, could we be having a possible MVP discussion come week 17? For this team, Eli may just have to tally an MVP type year, or the playoffs could be out of the question by week 13.
