FOXBORO, Mass. – If there was such thing after six weeks of the season, Aqib Talib would undoubtedly be the Patriots’ team MVP.
The cornerback has shut down Julio Jones, Roddy White, A.J. Green and Jimmy Graham in subsequent weeks. He made a game-saving play in the final seconds against the Falcons and has solidified the Patriots’ secondary with the help of his fellow defensive backs.
Tom Brady may be the most irreplaceable player in New England, but Talib is a not-so-distant second. That’s why Talib’s absence at practice on Wednesday is huge news. Talib reinjured his hip against the Saints. Missing time during the season would be nothing new for the former Buccaneer. He’s never played a full 16-game slate.
Losing Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo is massive for the Patriots, not only for their on-field play, but from a leadership perspective, as well. Talib may not have the experience or leadership of a Wilfork or Mayo, but it’s obvious from seeing him in the locker room and out on the fie

With Talib back at practice, you have to imagine he has a chance at playing in Sunday’s game...
Aqib Talib has been playing out of his mind for the New England Patriots. The shutdown cornerback was a critical component of the Patriots defense of Jimmy Graham on Sunday and the Patriots have placed trust in Talib to cover every opponent's number one receiving threat.

The New England Patriots tried out veteran defensive linemen Frank Kearse and George Johnson, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports. Kearse played for the Carolina Panthers last and is from Alabama A&M University. Johnson is a former Rutgers guy that was cut by the Vikings last week.
While it still appears unlikely that Aqib Talib will play on Sunday versus the New York Jets, it is very encouraging news that Aqib Talib was spotted participating during the media portion of practice on Friday.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, the news is good because it likely means that Talib won't miss an extended period of time:

It has become the norm this season, but Aqib Talib was the best player on the field on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
He was the best defender, best Patriot, best football player — better than Tom Brady or Drew Brees. Unfortunately, his greatness was only on display until the 9:27 mark in the third quarter. Talib layed out to push Darren Sproles out of bounds and grabbed...
Jerod Mayo is done playing football this season, at least that’s the word from Yahoo! Sports. Mayo may be done, but make no mistake about it, the Patriots will keep kicking so long as Tom Brady is their quarterback.
True, the New England Patriots have suffered more than their fair share of injuries, and that’s in addition to the Aaron Hernandez situation. Still, the NFL is...

Who deserves more credit for last week's win? The Patriots defense for shutting down Jimmy Graham or the offense for executing the miraculous game-winning drive?
Jason: The defense deserves all of the credit, hands down. It wasn't just the fact that they shut down Graham. They were put in two different tough situations where giving up a first down would have been game...
