Not quite. But just like incoming college freshmen attending an orientation before beginning classes in the fall, the Baltimore Ravens rookies must join all other NFL newcomers to do the same. The NFL organization has four main focuses for the four day seminar. According to the League, “NFL history, total wellness, experience, and professionalism” are the four main points in which the symposium is based upon. The Baltimore Ravens organization finds the symposium to be a great experience for all incoming NFL players, especially their own. Harry Swayne, director of player development for the Baltimore Ravens, believes these four days are a very valuable experience for the Ravens rookies. “The great thing about the symposium is that the rookies get to see that the issues and topics we’ve been discussing aren’t just specific to the Ravens. It affects all rookies across the board,” Swayne states. “I hope that they see there is consistency and continuity at the symposium with how the Ravens do things.” Rookie safety Matt Elam took to Twitter about his experience so far at the symposium, tweeting “I have learned so much in two days I’m a better man already..! #RookieSymposium”. Elam wasn’t the only rookie to head straight to social media to share what he had learned so far. Other Ravens rookies including cornerback Marc Anthony and fullback Kyle Juszczyk also tweeted about the experience. On June 25, the rookies made their way to the Cleveland Browns’ training facilities to take part in an NFL Play60 event.  The players had the chance to take the field with their peers at a friendly football clinic for children to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The AFC rookie symposium comes to a close on June 26, 2013 in hopes that the players will be properly acclimated and prepared for successful NFL careers.
