Falcons WR Harry Douglas (Photo Credit: wkrob.com) Harry Douglas has played as wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons since 2008. So far throughout his career he has received minimal play compared to Roddy White, Julio Jones, and tight end Tony Gonzalez. However, when he did get his time on the field Douglas would make very big impacts. Of course, with the other talent on the field, he would be left one and one with a cornerback and Douglas would easily beat them with his speed. Most Falcons’ football fans think of Douglas as a very impactful player that doesn’t get recognized, ultimately leaving them wondering, “Why isn’t Douglas playing more?” Despite his injury in previous years, nothing should have held back his play time. Against the New Orleans Saints, Douglas caught 4 passes for 93 yards, averaging 23.3 yards a catch. The longest was a 50-yard pass from Matt Ryan. These are the type of plays that Harry is known for and has executed during his football career with the team. Clearly he’s making a statement when he’s on the field. Maybe due to his 6-foot-0 and 183 pound stature, the coaches don’t want him to take a route down the middle and end up injured again. But, he could possibly just fit perfectly into Dirk Koetter’s offensive scheme; the man is a genius. This season however, there is possibly a different story. Preseason and regular season alike, we’ve seen Douglas on the field more and we’ve been witness to his success with the plays that are designed for the type of receiver he is. Also, the possibility of White or Jones being injured is already evident this week against the St. Louis Rams and therefore Douglas might get extensive play. All in all, Douglas is an amazing receiver. The Falcons have done a great job of keeping Harry Douglas, a secret weapon, a secret. General manager Thomas Dimitroff,  may have finally found the right guy that will complete his arsenal of weapons. Maybe that’s the problem; not having the right offensive coordinator previously throughout the years. And let me tell you, that’s a heck of a talented group of wideouts. White, Jones, Gonzalez, and then Douglas. Another thing that’s for sure is we will see Douglas on the field way more than usual. Douglas is that added element of surprise for the opposing team and their defensive coordinators. He’s proven that he can be an impactful player and whether voluntarily (his role in offensive schemes) or involuntarily (filling up a hole due to an injury), I’m positive Douglas will shine bright this season.
